Harkin's Command Performance

Thank you, Tom Harkin, for performing on demand. Last night I referenced Sen. Tom Harkin’s frequent rhetorical similarities to Hugo Chavez. Then, right on time, Tom Harkin chooses to once again to identify himself with a totalitarian Marxist dictator whose very existence is antithetical to American values. As a result, I must add my voice, in my private capacity this time, to those who are outraged by Harkin’s latest embrace of a Marxist dictator.

Some of Harkin’s outrages, like his
frequent lies about combat service in Vietnam, are essentially harmless. Few people still believe anything Tom Harkin says. But Harkin’s consistent support for Marxist dictators is frighteningly revealing of how the Democrat left views the world.

For example, whatever one’s views on the Vietnam war, no honest historian can deny the North Vietnamese government that Harkin openly supported was a Marxist, totalitarian, genocidal, hegemonic, military dictatorship. No freedom of any kind, extermination of opponents, military occupation of neighboring states, the whole list of global pathogens. The sentiments of such government were often echoed in Tom Harkin’s rhetoric during the Vietnam War and he openly
worked to undermine the South Vietnamese government, for no apparant purpose other than personal gain.

Youthful opposition to the Vietnam War was only Harkin's first embrace of a foreign enemy of the United States. Harkin has been a long time apologist for Fidel Castro. Opposition to Castro’s Cuba, another hegemonic, Marxist totalitarian state, has been a keystone of U.S. foreign policy of every administration from JFK to the Big W, except of course, that of the only self-loathing childish liberal who ever made it into the White House, Jimmy Carter-and where did his embrace of Castro lead us? Tom Harkin has done everything that a U.S. Senator can do but done military fatigues to give aid and comfort to Fidel Castro.

Ronald Reagan ran for President and said he would openly confront the Cuban surrogates in Central America, particularly Nicaragua, and won 45 states as a challenger and 49 as an incumbent. That’s about as much endorsement of an administration’s policies as our democracy permits. Rather than get on board, or at least not stand in the way, Tom Harkin again fought the values of the American people and supported the totalitarian, genocidal, Marxist dictatorships of Central America throughout the 80s.

Even after 9.11 Harkin has joined the rest of the ultra left haters and continued to attack, attack and attack Republican opponents by endorsing and echoing the statements of most repressive, violent, and brutal regimes and ideologies on the planet. So this latest embrace of yet another Latin American repressive totalitarian Marxist dictator shouldn’t come as a surprise, but it should come as a warning to Iowa and the nation.

We’re in WW3 guys and we can’t let this one die in the night-it’s too clear a beacon into the American hating core that fires Tom Harkin and the other liberal left. They think our enemies have legitimate grievances that justify their hatred of our nation and our people. By expressing this opinion, the liberal left provides support for the jihadist totalitarians with whom we are at war. Hugo Chavez has said he is Iran’s ally and Iran speaks longingly of a world without Israel and the United States. Providing rhetorical and moral support for the enemy in war is the most reprehensible thing a man who has sworn to preserve and protect the Constitution can do and Sen. Harkin has done it again.

P.S. It appears that the Dems Minnesota Senate candidate has studied political espionage from, well you can guess who.

Harkin is an embarrassment.
I find it interesting that Harkins comments will make the National News (Fox) and yet I don't even see a word about it in the local paper (Gazette) or on the local news. When is this clown up for re-election?

Maybe the Republicans will keep try and get this on the front page. This is crazier than the Wellstone funeral.

Harkin defends Venezuelan President's U-N speech against Bush

by Darwin Danielson

Iowa Senator Tom Harkin, a democrat, today defended Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's United Nations speech in which Chavez called President George Bush the devil. Harkin said the comments were "incendiary", then went on to say, "Let me put it this way, I can understand the frustration, ah, and the anger of certain people around the world because of George Bush's policies." Harkin continued what has been frequent criticism of the president's foreign policy.

Harkin says Bush came to office saying he wanted a new humility in foreign policy in reaching out to other countries, but Harkin says Bush's actual policy has been heavy handed. Harkin says the anger against Bush is generated from the Iraq war, which Harkin says was "unnecessary."

Harkin says, "We tend to forget that a few days after 9-1-1 thousands, thousands of Iranians marched in a candlelight procession in Teheran in support of the United States. Every Muslim country was basically on our side. Just think, in five years, President Bush has squandered all that." Harkin says the U.S. has put billions of dollars into the Iraq war, when it could be helping poor countries with things like clean water, medical aid and education.

Tusk and Talon has a great background piece on Harkin and his love of communist dictators. Heres' a snippet from his well done post:

During Harkin’s 1982 re-election campaign, his opponent documented that this Democratic congressman had always voted against foreign aid for countries friendly to the U.S., but that Harkin had voted to give taxpayer money to Communist Vietnam, Communist Cuba, Communist Pol Pot’s Cambodia, Marxist Sandinista Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua and other Communist nations. When this came up in a broadcast debate, Harkin replied: “From now on, I am going to vote against all foreign aid.”

Harkin is just the dirtiest dirt bag in politics.

If the entire United States Senate could be likened to a dungheap (which I believe it can) Tom Harkin and John McCain are the two tallest weeds growing out of it.
