Our official response

The following was our official response.

"For Immediate Release

Polk County Republicans have called on Gov. Tom Vilsack and Senator Tom Harkin to apologize to the federal law enforcement agents involved in the Marshalltown Swift plant raid.

“Gov. Vilsack and Sen. Harkin’s baseless attacks on federal law enforcement are clear examples of the politics of deception and division in which Democrats specialize” said Ted Sporer, Polk County Republican Chairman. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and U.S. Attorney Matt Whitaker are outstanding public servants who have broken up a multi state human smuggling and identity theft ring involving over 1200 illegal aliens, many of whom appear to have committed serious federal crimes” Sporer added. “Both Sec. Chertoff and US Attorney Whitaker deserve thanks from the people of Iowa, not shameless political criticism”.

In typical fashion, both Gov. Vilsack and Sen. Harkin have ignored the victims of identity theft, the taxpayers who subsidized the illegal aliens or the security of the people of Marshalltown while focusing on fabricated stories of abuse and mythical state criminal investigations with which the inconvenient enforcement of federal law could have interfered. “Gov. Vilsack’s own statements make it clear that his priority was a media strategy for exploiting the raids to his political advantage and not the security of the people in Marshall County”.

We invite all other Republicans to join Polk County in denouncing the Democrat's deceitful and destructive attacks on Republican leadership in law enforcement.

This is why you guys never win elections. This press release was a waste of time and space.

Just ignore it until you can use it as an election issue and then beat the living shit out of the RATS with it.

Anonymous said...

MoPed-you need to think bigger picture.

We cannot allow the DemoKrats to define every issue and wait until an election year to engage them in the public debate.

Would you prefer allowing Harkin and Vilsack to frame the debate as Republican ethnocentrism and hatred for Hispanics vs. Democrat care and understanding.

The debate never ends.

RF said...

Of course Tom & Tom are pandering, no doubt about it. But not many today's pols don't pander. This is not really any different from the R's never-ending pandering to the Christian right.

If we are serious about a long-term solution to the problem of illegals, our employers must have a good way to check everyone's legality. It seems pretty inevitable that will lead to some version of a national registry of people/national id. How you guys feel about that?

Also, if we spent this much time/energy/money cracking down on 1,200 illegals, what is it going to take to deport 10+ million of them?

mohammed was a pedophile said...

Republicans already do. The RATS have willing allies in the media. The way we combat that is by taking a message (and in the case of the Republican Party, I use the term "message" very, very loosely) directly to the people. The media is not going to cover a press release.

The Republicans are out of power. You have to wait for the next election and then beat the living shit out of the RATS every chance you get. Nobody is paying attention now.

Would you prefer allowing Harkin and Vilsack to frame the debate as Republican ethnocentrism and hatred for Hispanics vs. Democrat care and understanding.

Same response. Think outside the box here. Conservatives (notice I did not say Republicans) have to be like Nixon and Reagan and realize that the criminal liberal news enemedia is never going to be on our side so we have to take our case directly to the people.

Just wait. The time will come.

I say let every able bodied illegal apply for provisional military service in Afghanistan/Iraq and after two years of combat service we give them US citizenship. While they serve they would not be granted citizenship and they would be paid at 1/4th the rates of a standard US soldier.

We could solve a lot of problems if we implimented this idea. Additionally, we could extend this offer to Asian countries and have no problems stomping the Al Queda inspired insurgency with the added benefit the former "servants" would now be the masters! Nothing would be more insulting to Arabs than having an Indian or Asian person giving them orders.

Those serving in thus manner would be happy and we'd save a ton of money. I fail to understand why we are discussing any other options.

I guess the D answer to the problem is just like their answer to all problems - terrorism especially.

"The problem is just too big, so let's just give up."

RF - how much illegality are you willing to tolerate?

Sporer is taking the message to the people. Spread the word and more people will begin to adopt a more well informed opinion. If Rs wait until the election year much public opinion will already have formed on issues.

How else could the Democrat's have persuaded the public that Bush has done a bad job in this booming economy.

mohammed was a pedophile said...

Bush's own ineptitude.

Sporer is taking the message to the people.

No, he's taking the message to the media. The media is the enemy and they will NEVER give conservatives a fair shake.

We have to adopt strategies that recognize this reality.

Daisy said...

MoPed

Aren't you the people? Are you getting the message?

Now you spread it on everyone you know. I assume you agree with Sporer's reasoning, and you agree that we shouldn't just let Vilsack and Harkin's propoganda go without response so send 100 people you know the link so they can tell everyone they know how Harkin and Vilsack are lying and the Bush Admin is doing something-which is more than the Democrats want to do.

So don't make the perfect the enemy of the good-help make the good better by getting more people talking up our point of view at the water cooler.

That is one part of Sporer's campaign to circumvent the mainstream media.

Al Qaeda Sends a Message to Democrats

December 22, 2006 2:28 PM

Brian Ross and Hoda Osman Report:

Al Qaeda has sent a message to leaders of the Democratic party that credit for the defeat of congressional Republicans belongs to the terrorists.

In a portion of the tape from al Qaeda No. 2 man, Ayman al Zawahri, made available only today, Zawahri says he has two messages for American Democrats.

"The first is that you aren't the ones who won the midterm elections, nor are the Republicans the ones who lost. Rather, the Mujahideen -- the Muslim Ummah's vanguard in Afghanistan and Iraq -- are the ones who won, and the American forces and their Crusader allies are the ones who lost," Zawahri said, according to a full transcript obtained by ABC News.

Zawahri calls on the Democrats to negotiate with him and Osama bin Laden, not others in the Islamic world who Zawahri says cannot help.

"And if you don't refrain from the foolish American policy of backing Israel, occupying the lands of Islam and stealing the treasures of the Muslims, then await the same fate," he said.
----

DemocRATS don't think there is a problem. Bring the troops home. Apologize to everyone for the bother, encourage identity theft to accomplish illegal immigration and then complain about poverty in America.

That's what this election meant in 2006.

Anon 8:13,

I don't want to tolerate any illegality. My point is that we need to look for a real, long-term solution here. Conducting these kinds of raids and not trying to fix the system would be very dumb. Like keeping on emptying a sinking boat without trying to fix the actual leak. I agree there is a problem, and the problem is not too big to fix. But we need to be ready to accept the methods that are required for the fix. Otherwise we are just pandering. As I stated earlier, I believe a demand-side reform is probably the most important aspect of the overall solution.

Merry Christmas to all you crazy and not-so-crazy conservatives from your very own gutless America-hating liberal! ;)

rf speaks truth........we can't raid and then leave the door open.

we have to get control of the mexican border, suppress demand for illegal labor through strict enforcement and more raids, deport the bad apples and assimilate the rest.

if we really do steps 1, 2, and 3, 4 becomes as inevitable as was the historic assimilation of other ethnic migrants, all of which have been good for the country.

Anonymous said...

RF-- you are begining to sound more and more republican all the time.

Anonymous said...

But we need to be ready to accept the methods that are required for the fix.

rf - what methods are required? What do the democrats suggest? What is on Vilsacks, as president and Chetty as Gov suggesting as a solution to this? They sound so far, open borders, come one come all and bring others. Use whatever means, including identity theft to get here and we'll support you all the way.

So, what solutions are you hearing from your side that are required that we republicans are ignoring?

Anonymous said...

Way to go, Sporer. Finally, a Republican who will take the RATS on in a fight. We need far more Sporers. Our side just doesn't like to fight.

mohammed was a pedophile said...

Nobody is paying attention now. I'v already sent the link and received it in my e-mail.

The problem is still that Sporer is preaching to the choir. Conservatives already know that liberals are liars, we don't need to be told.

That is why I say keep the powder dry until people are paying attention, then strip the bark off the bastards.

RF said...

Nothing wrong if I sometimes sound like an R. I never thought one party had a monopoly on the truth. You folks are not completely nuts - even though I sometimes wonder about that.

Regarding immigration, I’m not hearing too many D politicians actually saying “open borders, come all and bring others.” Some immigrant rights people are talking about everyone’s right to live & work anywhere in the world. I think that is completely nuts as no country on this earth – at least to my knowledge – practices that kind of policy. D politicians appear to be closer to W’s “comprehensive immigration reform” approach. D’s seem to focus more on cracking down on employers that hire illegals, and I agree with that approach. I also realize that our employers must have a good way to check everyone's legality. Otherwise it would be unfair to crack down on them. To figure out who is here illegally, we also need to know who is here legally. And that inevitably will lead to some version of a national registry of people/national id. These are the methods I’m talking about. Once demand for illegals significantly decreases and it will be very hard to find work as an illegal, we may see some real change.

mohammed was a pedophile said...

MoPed,
Are you serious about combating illegal immigration? All tough talk, but not willing to sacrifice anything for greater good?

The Real Sporer said...

rf-as always, a man of good sense and spirit, if frequently mistaken, so you confuse your good faith search for solutions with your party leadership's degeneration into something most poisonous. I long for the day when the Bill Richardsons, Evan Bayh's, Joe Liebermans and even goofy old Dick Gephardt give us a reasonable and patriotic opposition. This baby boom era malignancy of self loathing that has engulfed the liberal mentality has got to end for the good of the nation.

The Dems are saying open the borders without restraint, albeit implicitly, by launching the ridiculous attacks on Federal officials for the Swift raids.

Create a template that any enforcement is evil, for whatever meritless reason, and pretty soon the consensus forms that border enforcement is either immoral or impossible. By smearing the people who enforce immigration laws the Dems and the liberal press make it more unlikely that others will follow advocate stricter enforcement.

Having said that-I sure hope the feds are zeroing in on Swift. It hardly seems fair that the taxpayers of Iowa have to finance wage economies for any of our fellow citizens, of which Swift is only one, just like me, MoPed and rf.

By the way, having said that I also wonder about the combined effect of the Democrat rules free elections and the search for open borders will have on our democracy?

MoPed-you're half right. We need to engage in the debate because public opinion only hardens during the campaign but the media (in this case-the totality of all media)create a mindset and soft opinions through the sheer quantity of the discussion.

We then need to run on something that reflects the overall position that we have claimed throughout the rest of the biennieal cycle. The idea that we only have to campaign during the season is as obselete as the notion that a football team only needs to train during spring practice and two a days. Cable TV, the internet and talk radio have made public education through the big debate a 24/7/365 project.

So Merry Christmas to all, even the misguided Democrats.

The Real Sporer said...

btw-not to defend a notorious democrat but rf is also right.
While raids like the Swift raid are necessary as a solution to the illegal immigration problem but they are not sufficient.

If we don't tighten the border and dry up the market the raids are just fingers in a proverbial dyke.

Like Kharzai said during his last American visit-we need less talk and more action! The raids are a start.

The Real Sporer said...

A final part of the rant, 'cause I think this issue is huge and underrated in the public mind, this issue is old.

I worked summers on the railroad back in the late 70s (college then-big and strong not stooped and fat)driving spikes all day. We had dozens of illegals working with us and every foreman knew it. Hell, they'd hide when the INS guys ("white hats") came out on the tracks.

Mohammed was a pedophile said...

sacrifice anything for greater good?

I don't recognize a greater good. Unless you are a RAT or a Bushbot, stomping on inherent freedom does not qualify as a "good."

I disagree with a couple of your assumptions, Ted. You say public opinion hardens during the campaign, I say that the public does not care until the campaign. They simply are too busy working to feed their families, pay the mortgage, save for their kid's college education and maybe put a little money away for retirement to give a rat's ass about what Tom Harkin says.

Sure, use the New Media, the net, talk radio (when they actually do something besides shill for the Republican Party) but recognize the reality that the criminal liberal news enemedia will ALWAYS be opposed to us and we need to adopt strategies that accept this reality.

As for your football analogy, conservatives need to train thrroughout the year. Read your Rand, Bastiat, Hayek, Sowell, Tyler and you will be set to counter any argument the left throws up during a campaign.

MoPed,

Evidently, you are not into achievable solutions. Must love to bitch & moan, rant & rave too much.

Which one of your "inherent freedoms" would be threatened by some sort of a national id? You afraid an NSA agent is going to come & get you in the middle of the night? Why you blog? Everything can be traced, you know... Or maybe you just don't think illegal immigration is a problem.

Merry Christmas anyway!

Anonymous said...

You may want to grammar check your releases.

The Republicans just don't get it that it is ligistically impossible to export every illegal. We need to stop the bleeding, and then figure out what to do. Once we give these immigrants an opportunity to become legal, I think they'll drop the whole "New Mexico" attitude and embrace being an American. But where they are right now, they are shunned and treated like crap.

1. If I were born in Mexico, I'd probably be in the United States (legally or illegally) because I'd like to think I'm that ambitious.

2. If I did live up here, and everyone hated me, I'd probably join with my fellow natives and try to retain my culture, rather than adapting to theirs. Hell, I wouldn't want to be a part of that culture of unacceptance.

Anonymous said...

So, violating laws to satisfy your own personal gratification is called - ambition?

Why would someone want to come to America in order to not be an American? That's ridiculous. That is the antithesis of ambition to not assimilate into the dominate culture.

Mohammed was a pedophile said...

Evidently, you are not into achievable solutions.

No, just opposed to statist solutions to problems.

Which one of your "inherent freedoms" would be threatened by some sort of a national id?

Freedom of speech, association, privacy rights, need I go on?

You afraid an NSA agent is going to come & get you in the middle of the night?

Not really. Though if Hitlery gets elected, you never know. There is waaaaaaaaaaay too much probability of the Imperial Federal Government abusing its power.

Everything can be traced, you know...

I know. It is scary what Big Brother can do.

Or maybe you just don't think illegal immigration is a problem.

Sure I do. I favor mass deportations. Swift should be shut down for one month per illegal. If they had 12 illegals, they are out of business for a year.

RF said...

"Freedom of speech, association, privacy rights, need I go on?"

Please elaborate. I have difficulty seeing the connection, considering the massive amounts of information the government and every other entity in this country has about us. I sure would be happy if some buraucrat had easy access to the tiny tidbit of information proving that I am a legal citizen of this country and the illegal at Swift is not. Hell, lots of people can figure out what kind of things we buy or what type of internet porn we prefer.

The Real Sporer said...

The Feds already have all of the information so there isn't much intrinsic or inherent risk in providing it to a clearinghouse atimmigration services. Newt Gingrich has some very very smart ideas about this particular topic.

Normally I would be worried about this, and I have changed my mind, but I think the risk of terrorism and the need to eliminate illegal immigration to the greatest extent possible make whatever unique risk to privacy worth it for security.

Mohammed was a pedophile said...

make whatever unique risk to privacy worth it for security.

Scary. No wonder the Republicans are fucked up.

People who need to be persuaded to be free don't deserve to be free.

mohammed was a pedophile said...

There is an easy way to stop immigration without invasions of privacy by the Imperial Federal Government. Just build a damn wall.

Round up the illegals and deport them. They can then re-apply for entry. It would take 7-10 years to process an application. This would allow us to assimilate the immigrants that are already here legally.

No celebration of Mexican holidays in schools, no Kwanzaa (a bogus holiday), no foreign celebrations allowed.
