Tommy………………..

……………. Thompson (posted in Badger red) came to town today and, like Rudy last night, put together a great event. I saw someone scooped me (a little) but the Tommy turnout was about the same as Rudy drew last night-400ish. Not as many new faces, but a strong showing of locally active Republicans none the less.

Hopefully the press is noticing the large numbers of people who are turning out for all the Presidential candidates’ events. Iowans really do take the caucuses very, very seriously. The people who attend and are studying all of the candidates will most likely lead the discussion in hundreds of caucuses next January. This level of interest followed by local, small group discussion at the caucuses is the very best of participatory democracy, and believe me, participatory democracy is in many ways the cure for our cultural failings all over the USA.

Tommy himself is an impressive campaigner. He’s enthusiastic, optimistic, and, perhaps most importantly, likeable. One should never forget that the more likeable candidate usually wins and Tommy is very engaging. Governor Branstad, from whose absence from the ballot we have not yet recovered, introduced Tommy-although I don’t know if that is, in fact, an endorsement and I’m not about to put words in the mouth of Iowa’s longest serving Governor. Bill Dix kicked off the affair, and its great to see another young leader staying active in public life after defeat.

The mid-day timing cut back on SCC participation and it turns out the Real Sporer was the only member in attendance. I saw a group of Republican legislators enter and watch carefully from the back-additional evidence of participatory democracy in action. Thanks to each of those legislators for learning more about our potential candidates.

Tommy has a great staff and team here in Iowa. This event represented a very well organized campaign with a strong ground game. To the press and the contenders, as we in the law say, take notice and govern yourselves accordingly.

P.S.

The Real Sporer is also attending Mitt’s event tonight but has to travel to Fairfield immediately upon leaving so the Mitt report might be delayed until tomorrow evening.

Rove was on the campus to talk to the College Republicans, but when he got outside more than a dozen students began throwing things at his car, an American University spokesperson said.

Who does the Real Sporer support?

So D’s are the hate speech party? R’s never behave badly? - For equal opportunity mindless party bashing, where would we start? With the party that hates gays (but in private seems to enjoy Ted H. style prostate massages)? Party whose hate rhetoric inspires people to beat up and kill gays? I also really enjoy the fetus pics on my windshield. - I’m thinking Rove is getting off pretty easy if this is the worst he has to endure.

I’m not condoning this kind of behavior. All I’m saying is that both sides have their bad apples.

Did your parents excuse your behavior just because "someone else did it too, some other time for some other purpose that has nothing to do with the hate crime that I committed, and THEY got away with it."

That's not much of an argument. It never worked for me as a child with my parents, nor did it work with my own children with me.

the huge huge huge difference is the violence involved. someone who follows christ's teaching on the subject and, therefore, thinks homosexual behavior is wrong is not the moral equivalent of being a psycho killing someone for being gay. that's ridiculous. the religious person who holds their own personal belief is not responsible for a psycho killing a gay.

I bet you think iran having nuclear weapons is just the same as the united states having nuclear weapons, don't you?

Ah..the power of collectivism.

you just said it's ok to assault a person if you don't like their free speech opinion. you just said the ends justifies the means.

How does that fly in a domestic abuse shelter? Have you tried using that logic in that venue?

"she should be glad she only got the black eyes. I cudda given her a broken leg, the ungrateful bitch"

"R's never behave this way" is the ridiculous statement I was referring to. That's my point. As I clearly said, I don't condone the behavior. - And still, throwing things at someone's car does not sound terribly violent to me. If Rove can't take that, he's a girlieman. At least I would assume tough-talking R's would think so. - Sorry, I forgot. Rove is the ultimate spoiled brat conservative. He probably can't take much of anything.

Hey, this mindless bashing is kind of fun!

rf - i stand by my comment. republicans never behave this way. college republicans do not throw rocks at people, they don't physically prevent them from speaking at universities, they don't throw pies at speakers, they don't yell FUCK THE TROOPS or burn them ineffigy. they don't behave like cindy sheehan, they don't behave like code pink, they don't spray paint offices.

republicans NEVER behave that way.

Throwing rocks is childish. rove is not a girlie man. rove was assaulted by thugs and criminals -

-otherwise known as Young and Upcoming Democrats.

I stand by my comments. And Rove is the ultimate girlieman and spoiled brat conservative.
