Speaker Nancy Pelosi was the star guest. Our publication color is to honor the Speaker's appearance as the Sunday morning star and her committment to Code Pink. Damascus Nancy immediately talked about returning to her Democrat roots. Not just the Democrats' disgraceful manipulation of public opinion to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in Vietnam but actually all the way back to 1864 when the Democrats used virtually the same words to describe our Civil War and their demands that President Lincoln surrender to the south and allow secession and slavery that they employ in their same defeatist rhetoric today.
Damascus Nancy also laid out a frightening image of immigration “reform” from her perspective. The primary feature is the absence of enforcement and the need to allow 4-5 times as many illegals in the country.
The only other thing of note was Damascus Nancy’s vigorous defense of John Murtha’s latest outrage, bullying junior members into supporting Murtha’s appeasement agenda. She actually used the words “Murtha” and “good reputation” in the same sentence. More on Murtha later this week.
Mitch McConnell raised two very good points. First, he stated the obvious-a bill that in any way provides dates or reasons to limit support for the Iraq campaign is DOA. The Senate Democrat leadership could barely get half their caucus to support the appeasement agenda. Democrats don’t answer the argument about telegraphing your punch to the enemy and neither did Stephanopoulos or Pelosi.
Second, McConnell emphasized the existence of enforcement triggers before the rest of the immigration package is implemented. This is pretty important in the “nuts and bolts” category of immigration policy.
We haven’t watched ABC in a while. I was right about the friendly forum. The panel is absurd. George Will, a loveable and intelligent paleo-con and usual opponent of the Bush Administration; Fareed Zakaria, the erudite and cosmopolitan appearing international journalist, and almost universal opponent of the Bush Administration; and Katrina vanden Heuvel, the hate and rage filled editor of the ultra-left wing Nation is on hand to make the other two look reasonable and well conceived. I think a review of all the talk show panels is in order later this week.
