As most of the loyal readers know, this is pretty much a political blog. Tonight we are going to do two posts of a more personal nature.
The first topic is animals, more specifically; cruelty to domestic dogs and cats. Dogs and cats, and most other animals, deserve our human protection. Whether you believe it is the divine order or biological circumstance, we are the stewards of the planet. We have brought domestic dogs and cats into our homes to enrich our lives since the time before time. They provide security, entertainment and unconditional trust. In exchange we provide them with safety and care.
Tonight, I want to plug the ASPCA. Does not a culture of life also judge itself by how it treats the most dependent, trusting and loyal of creatures-domestic pets? While there are some lunatics in the animal rights fringe most people working to prevent cruelty to animals simply recognize what our pets do for us and what we must also do for them. So pet your dog or cat and think about what you can do to rescue the unfortunate dogs or cats who are neglected or abandoned and lack the kindly hand that only a human can provide. You’ll feel better if you do.

Sporer surprised me. I thought you would be one of those people who hates PETA and clumps ASPCA with those folks. Caught myself stereotyping. A close family member of mine actually used to work for ASPCA. It's a great organization. - Of course, judging from your previous Obama commentary, you don't seem to think very highly of people who devote their lives to nonprofit causes... But, good for you anyway!
thank you. warm heart for wet noses.
it's not that i think poorly of them, i just think that they lack the ability to fully appreciate the burdens that their altruism places of those whom they require to support that altruism.
My ASPCA-adopted cat – a surely liberal New Yorker – thanks Sporer as well.
I love our shelter dog.
Mr. Sporer, what do you think about Mitt Romney strapping his dog to the roof of the family vehicle? Maybe not as bad as Bill "cat killer" Frist, but sounded inhumane to me.
