How you know the end of the world is near.

Being the fair minded political observers that we are here at the Real Sporer tonight’s political TV included a little dose of MSNBC’s (always good to know what the adversary is saying) Dan Abrams Report.

The report featured a discussion between Michael Reagan and a pair of media commentators. I didn’t catch the others names, nor Reagan’s but I already knew him. The subject was Dan Rather’s statements about CBS “tarting up the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric.

The male mystery guest (note to MSNBC-more captions with the guests’ names would be helpful) argued that racism and sexism explained Rather’s comment and the decline of market share for the CBS Evening News since Couric brought her unique brand of smiling hate filled propaganda to the evening hour. But it wasn’t that paean to the Culture of Victimization that made me fear the apocalypse was upon us.

Reagan argued that the CBS Evening News ratings plunge was the result of Republican viewers’ offense at CBS hiring the “good natured Eva Braun” of the MSM running dogs to replace the Rather, already himself the Melvin Dummar of TV journalists. Hiring someone so offensive to Republicans and conservatives as Couric” was simply the final straw for even elderly Republicans-the last Republican demographic that had not long ago abandoned CBS. In fact, other than the epicene David Gregory CBS would have been hard pressed to find a more offensive replacement for “Melvin” Rather. The male mystery guest not only disagreed but actually expressed genuine amazement that one would think politics may affect audience news selction. How one could dispute, much less ridicule, such a statistical truth, is surely evidence of a delusional personality. While I was beginning to wonder how the mystery man was booked on even an MSNBC program, even the denial that politics might explain program selection for television news, however removed from reality, didn’t make me look for the Four Horsemen.

No, the statement that has truly rendered tomorrow morning’s eastern sky terrifying was the mystery man’s very straight faced and serious statement that “Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert are doing a great job” of presenting NEWS to a young demographic. Now that, my friends, is scarier than Ted Kennedy with a bottle of Hennessy’s, a young blond and a car key.

Mr. Sporer, I wish it were just a Stewart/Colbert joke, but apparently we have been funding some Sunni insurgents in Iraq on the condition that they promise to fight Al-Qaeda.

Yep, the Bush administration really has a clue on the whole fighting terrorism thing.

Seriously, how loud would you be screaming if a Democrat even proposed, let alone enacted, a policy to arm the insurgents who are blowing up our troops in Iraq?

Which Republican will stand up and condemn this idiocy?

i hate to admit it, but I love Colbert Report. I get my news online, but it's fun to watch.

btw, How come the GOP can't come up with something as smart and funny to say? Satire is a great way to communicate a message.
