Sour Grapes

The Democrats and their media running dogs will undoubtedly exploit retired Lt. General (Ret..) Ricardo Sanchez’s outburst of pessimism about Iraq.

The simple facts on the ground refute Gen. Sanchez’s comments. Every sign points toward battlefield victory and increased political stability. The bulk of the pessimisn arise during and shortly after Gen. Sanchez's battlefield command in Iraq.

As a result of the criticism Gen. Sanchez was relieved of command for failing to win in Iraq. His perspective is not that of an impartial analyst but rather a frustrated general that failed to achieve victory.

Long term history is unkind to such projections of personal frustration on the national effort. George McClellan was very popular in 1864, not so popular 50 years later following a less political review of our own Civil War.

Churchill’s (Winston not John) example of refraining from criticism of decisions that were made during one’s own tenure of authority without contemporaneous disagreement certainly would seem to have been a superior historical example to that of George McClellan for Gen. Sanchez.

Sour grapes is right. Sporer may be the last person who has not been able to find any fault in this current administration - likely to go down as the most incompetent in our country's history. Trying to defend the indefensible must make one sour allright.

It's funny how these folks who have parted ways with the administration and revealed some interesting and often not so flattering information all the sudden become traitors and incompetents in the eyes of the blindly partisan.

Sporer,

Since I know you love to bash Old Europe, you might find this interesting: http://news.cincypost.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071012/EDIT01/710120340/1003/EDIT

allow me a response.

most of the regression in Iraq occurred under casey and sanchez, did it not? am i factually mistaken about that?

go back and read the liberal howls about the iraq situation when those two were in command and then tell me how willing you are to endorse his opinion.

its pretty hard to listen to a liberal now defend one of those two failed commanders. i think the truth is the liberals will simply jump on anything that can be used to bash W. you're proving it right now.

What about this sign?

"To Sanchez's trenchant critique was added on Friday a fatwa from Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, the spiritual leader of Iraq's Shiites. AFP says,

' "The foreign security companies working in Iraq belittle innocent Iraqi citizens," a statement from Karbalai said. "The occupying forces do the same in some of their operations, adding to the criminal acts of the takfiris (Sunni militants)." '

"Sistani is said to be demanding legislation in parliament to hold the security companies accountable. In addition, this is the strongest condemnation I have seen by Sistani of the US military ('the occupying forces') and it may be a turning point."

I'd say the a review of all of the evidence, including the the dramatic reduction in enemy attacks and military and civilian casualties, is evidence of political improvement.

A couple of military sources agree.

Sporer,

I'm talking about the pattern here. It is just extremely funny how the trusted hands become despised enemies when they no longer are on the adm payrolls and can freely speak.

For quite some time now, I have not been a big fan of W bashing as a political strategy. The disaster is so obvious that it goes without saying. No need to rub it in. I am confident the voting public has made up their mind about the man. However, when people start defending the indefensible, I am usually unable to refrain from commenting.

Just wait till the primary is over and the R nominee starts thinking of winning the general. No matter what your candidates say now, I doubt the R nominee's strategy will comprise of being Sporer-like W apologist.

rf - i think Jimmy Carter already has the title of worst president ever. bill clinton is right behind him, but as the most morally corrupt president ever.

can't you see the manipulation by your party to rewrite history?

We have Reagan and Lincoln. Who do you have? Bill "I have an unusual penis" Clinton?

Bush is going to turn out just fine in history - just like Truman. He will get credit right after Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and Pope John Paul II, for saving Western Civilization.

What will Billy "I have no comment about raping Juanita Brodderick" Clinton go down in history for doing?

Cigar appreciation doesn't count as a real accomplishment.
