Chris Wallace hosted Speaker “Damascus” Nancy Pelosi this morning. Right off the bat Spkr. Pelosi displayed the road she pursued to 11% approval ratings.
The very first topic was SCHIP. Pelosi first excoriated President Bush, launching such articulate critiques as “President Bush has something against the middle class”. Pelosi then justified tax payer provided health insurance to adults whose family incomes are three times the poverty level because it eliminates the “penalty” of having to purchase health insurance. What’s next, the federal government relives the “penalty” of buying cars for essential, perhaps life saving locomotion or free heat in the winter and AC in the summer because it eliminates the “penalty” of purchasing necessary, potentially life saving, climate control? Since Pelosi has supported hundreds of tax increases on the very same people whose incomes are three times poverty how is her internal position not simply socialized medicine supported by income redistribution?
Pelosi completely ducked responsibility for having been fully briefed on all interrogation methods used by the Administration. The techniques of head slapping, water boarding and temperature extremes are, of course, not “torture” under American law. Moreover, her carefully parsed words and unusual forbearance of an attack on the President over this issue makes it pretty clear that she has been fully aware of American interrogation techniques and has at least tacitly approved them. Pelosi’s response this morning builds on Pres. Clinton’s statements about interrogation as evidence that the current Democrat howling about “torture” is pure political posture.
Pelosi made no news when the conversation turned to Iraq. Like every other liberal advocate of “safe redeployment” Damascus Nancy didn’t bother to explain what a “limited” American role would look like. For example, Pelosi wants to leave enough troops to fight Al Qaeda and guard the American Embassy in Bagdad while leaving unanswered questions of who and how would we secure the bases from which we launch our attacks against Al Qaeda. Would you not like to hear the Democrats actually answer those questions?
When confronted with statistical evidence, in the liberals own currency of casualties, Pelosi stuck to the defeat at any price agenda and simply denied that evidence of battlefield success is success. Rather than admit any success what so ever Pelosi ignored the real, tangible and used the already tired attack on Iraqi political problems. Pelosi thinks that complete political reconciliation should be fully accomplished by the end of 2007. Preposterous on its face, insistence on such a silly schedule of events is further evidence of the enduring Democrat trait of our time, complete incompetence on foreign policy.
Damascus Nancy lived up to the name this morning. The Speaker would not distance herself from her endorsement of Syrian President Assad as an agent of peace in the Middle East. When asked about the Syrian/North Korean nuclear facility Pelosi responded with an attack on Israel for having represented that they too were interested in peace, making it pretty clear whose victory she preferred in the Israeli and Lebanese wars with Hezbollah.
The combination of the Pelosi commentary on Iraq and Syria provide substantial evidence that Pelosi is solidly among the twenty or so percent of Democrats that are, in fact, cheering for a terrorist victory in Iraq. If you liberal readers find this accusation harsh, share everything that Pelosi has done to contribute to victory in Iraq before you sling one ad hominem in our direction.
Pelosi literally listed tag lines her campaign lines about “holding the President accountable”. Other than having provided the largest increase in veterans’ benefits in the history of the V.A. Pelosi couldn’t come up with any significant legislative accomplishments of her tenure. Not surprisingly, Pelosi blamed the Bush vetoes for what hasn’t been accomplished on the war and the even larger welfare state the Democrats are trying to create.
I don’t think Spkr. Pelosi in interested in answering anything harder than a 2” gimme putt. Too bad for us Republicans.
