Early Sunday: FDT and a new Huck commercial kicks…………

………….. your you know what. TRS caught only the tail end of FDT on Stephanopoulos before seeing the Mike Huckabee interview by Chris Wallace. The candidates' respective appearances were significant in content, and worthy of discussion, but first, you’ve gotta see the Huckabee ad that is opening in Iowa tomorrow. Chuck Norris will kick your you know what if you don’t support Huck, I’ll tell you that.

FDT and Huck provide an interesting contrast of the southern politician. FDT appears to be a calm, stolid leadership. FDT’s response to Stephanopoulos’ questions about the “late start” of the Thompson campaign provided FDT with a chance to display the image of a calm, yet resolute and confident leader. Using a very patient tone, Fred cites history (the nearly 40 point swing in his first Senate race) and then calmly transitions into the present (Iowa fluid, trouble in NH and leading in SC) as evidence of a highly competitive Presidential campaign. FDT looks like the President should, big, calm, wizened and confident.

Mike Huckabee, on the other hand, appears youthful, extremely active (of body and mind) and very sincere and likeable. Huck clashed with FDT on the issue of electability by cleverly shifting the topic to FDTs record on life issues, particularly the Life Amendment. Huckabee presented a very articulate and effective explanation of the Fair Tax proposal, clearly his most detailed national public policy statement. Huck also very effectively defended his ethical record during genuine grilling by Chris Wallace. Huck did have a minor slip with a reference to Bill Clinton’s many ethical problems-an analogy I’m sure he regrets and won’t repeat.

Fred and Mike provide a remarkable contrast with Evita, as well. Both Fred and Mike are far, far more likeable than Hillary-and likeability is huge in Presidential politics-and both will present an attractive alternative on the debate stage. Huckabee, a former collegiate varsity debater (yes, there was a “varsity” division of college debate in those days), might provide a very difficult debating opponent come next fall. One can almost imagine the debate scene where Fred metaphorically says “calm down Hillary”.

Ted-You're right the likeability factor which is why Clinton will minimize the number she'll do once the nominee, or skipping some or even all should participation be deemed too risky. She doesn't handle criticism well at all.

Anonymous--What does middling writing skills have to do with being an excelllent president?

What do you mean "I can't communicate in print." Must be doing real well since I'm all that you think about. You're old lady must be real tired hearing about me!

Its really too bad the Club for Corrupt Growth has so many billionaires donating money to tear down Mike Huckabee. His record on taxes is far more clean than their choice of candidates, but unlike good-ol-boy and fellow Billionaire Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee supporters the middle class and wants to ensure they get a fair tax system.

People with money just HATE a candidate that passes tax cuts across the board, it means that their tax breaks arent as big .... Boo fuckin’ ho-ho and annon 6:13 is a fucktard for his inability to see that.

Not hardly, Mark. She's one of your fans. Everytime we laugh out loud at your stupidity she tells us to "Shut up! Don't make fun of that stupid old asshole! It's obvious something's wrong with his mental state. Don't mock the afflicted!"

So you see, she's one of your biggest fans!

I find it unfortunate that we're seeing traditional Republican/Conservative leaning groups attacking Republicans like Mike Huckabee. Infighting amongst ourselves is what the Democrats are hoping we do..

Anonymous - agreed. So shut up and get on board with the only real candidate in this race; Mark Klein! A man who stinks of the earth because he's a friend of the soil! Mark Klein, now more than ever!

I wish I was one of those so called billionaires that you speak of. However I just happen to be an average ordinary taxpayer. I don't think we need more taxes nor do I think government does due diligence with our money. Huckabe thinks there is an endless supply in my wallet and wants more of it. Scarey that he calls himself a republican.
Huckabee is a tax hiker however you look at it.

Mark Klein is a fucking tool. I'm tired of reading his stupid shit and the other fuckers who post their (sometimes funny but getting old) shit on this blog.

Klein, move the fuck on. Funny bloggers, blog about something else... but keep it funny.

If, Tax Hike Mike, you are just an "ordinary person" worried about your taxes; then you are clearly as stupid, easily manipulated "ordinary person." As Governor of Arkansas, Huckabee cut $350 million in excess taxes and cut over 90 individual taxes for Arkansas.

Check your facts. I’m sure you'll find them seriously lacking and no amount of regurgitated rhetoric from a corrupt special interest hit group will change that.

IOWA RIGHT TO LIFE COMMITTEE
November 20, 2007

Iowa Right to Life Committee Remains Neutral at This Time

Des Moines, IA—The Iowa Right to Life Committee met in a closed session yesterday in a response to the National Right to Life endorsement of Fred Thompson. As the affiliate to National Right to Life, the Iowa Right to Life Board of Directors took a positive position to honor and work with NRLC toward the common goal for life.

It was the decision of the Iowa Right to Life Board to stay neutral at this time in order to maintain a long tradition that supports all pro-life candidates in a primary, including Fred Thompson.

Thompson is fairly new in Iowa, but has good name recognition among the grass roots. On the other hand, Rudy Giuliani, who is the only anti-life candidate, has practically ignored Iowa. This lack of interest in Iowa could indicate that he never stood a chance there.

“Without a doubt, Giuliani's support is soft at best since there are still so many conservatives who do not know that he is a strong supporter of abortion, including tax funded abortions,” stated Kim Lehman, President of IRLC. The right to life issue has become, in many circles, the barometer to indicate the candidate’s ethical and moral foundation. Failure to honor life is a failure to the family, which remains under attack.

Anti-life Republicans are misguided to think that they can win an election without the pro-life vote. It is important for this country to choose a candidate that respects life, as Ronald Reagan respected life, because without the right to life, no other rights matter.
