…………… describe the Democrats’ incremental journey into the total state with absolute clarity. We here at TRS arose this morning and read a preview of Slaughterhouse Mike Gronstal’s appearance on tomorrow’s IPTV edition of “Iowa Press”. Gronstal recites an agenda that is all government, all the time and in every orifice of Iowa’s body politic.
Read the list and be shocked. A smoking ban this year, with the possibility of a stricter ban next year, appears to be the top of the line up. Complete control of the restaurant and bar environment. However, lest one think that the serious impairment of property rights and personal freedom that are the cost of the smoking ban arise from some serious commitment to improved public health, the Democrat plan is to exempt casinos.
The next agenda item is the “Collective Bargaining Bill”, the legislative payoff Democrats are offering the union leadership whose support paid off so well for the ’06 legislative Democrats. Government of the unions, by the unions and for the unions is precisely the affect this bill will have on Iowa. Even municipal governments and school boards will be effectively precluded from countering even the most extortionate of labor demands. Didn’t the Soviets and the Cambodians briefly try proletarian control of the means of production? It is comforting that that so much of the modern Democrat agenda is homage to V.I. Lenin and Pol Pot. Put another way, this legislation rejects your right, as business owner or taxpayer, and in either capacity ultimately responsible for payment of the bills, doesn’t mean you should be the final authority and what, when and how bills get paid. Labor unions, especially AFSCME will now determine how your money can best benefit them.
Then, Gronstal will slide into some crazy talk of tax and spending. A new prison-that Gronstal admits we cannot afford and universal tax payer provided health insurance for all “children” in Iowa is about as specific as Slaughterhouse Mike will get.
No such ambiguities exist when Gronstal starts talking about taxes. The legislative Democrats want higher sales taxes, higher fuel taxes and higher bottle fees.
Every single proposal that Gronstal discusses either radically serves to concentrate governmental power, limit personal freedom and confiscates your money for the sole purpose of placing government in ever greater control of every aspect of your life.
So, can we as Iowa Republicans illustrate this road to Perdition in a way that is meaningful and persuasive or do we think repeating tired old tag lines will suddenly work in ’08 where it failed in 98, 2000, ’02, ’04 and ’06?

I planned to put up a billboard against Gronstal but changed my mind when a prominent member of Republican leadership requested I cancel this plan.
BTW - the person in question is not Ted. TRS is in the clear and, as always, right on the issues of the day.

C'mon Ken - grow a pair. Since when do you need to take marching orders from leadership? Now get in line and shut your pie hole like a good little soldier.

I own several auto dialers and the next time I return to Iowa I will sell them unless a worthy Republican candidate wants to borrow them for free. If IowaFathers.com ever uses them for their intended purpose I will allow them to use them but so far these rather expensive personal investments remain idle, except the one in Council Bluffs, and I am ready to get rid of them. Any Republican candidates want free use of an auto dialer ready to send a message to 4,000 phones per day? Free is always a good price right?
Grow a pair and name the hack. Someone like that doesn't deserve any respect.
I would but I don't want to harm Republican candidates or their recruiters and naming him will only serve to harm the Republican Party at this point. All I can say is they are the minority party for a reason right?
It is not just the Republican Party Hack (I’ve allowed him to remain nameless out of respect) that prevents me from going after Gronstal. The Fathers/Equal Parenting Movement also impacted my decision to back out of the billboard effort.
Let me start with the Republicans - the nameless state senate party hack told me even a billboard with a circle X over Gronstal’s face would offend women if they saw the IowaFathers.com attribution. OK, I accept a Republican hack would prefer to play nice with Gronstal which serves to let the Republican challenger get waxed because he thinks IowaFathers.com is too controversial, but it still defies logic considering Republicans wanted Gronstal gone by any means. I personally think a blistering negative campaign from a group like IowaFathers.com is what it takes to knock him out. Perhaps Christian Conservative groups will go after Gronstal with zeal equal to the plan I had but asking us to throw in with them, while subverting our issue, was absurd. To be honest, I wonder why Christian groups refuse to address our issue at all when divorce affects many more than homosexual marriage. When self-evident circumstances demonstrate 40% of children lose regular contact with their fathers within 2 years of a divorce Christians should be concerned but they aren't. Instead they fall in line blaming fathers for the problem of broken marriages in the first place because it is politically correct to do so while ignoring the obvious financial incentives that drive women to file divorce 7 out of 8 times in our Iowa Courts.
But, my complaint is not just with Republican Party Hacks or does nothing Christians who ignore our issue but rather against victims who should be righteously upset at their treatment by the courts. The victims should organize and do things that bring about a solution but such endeavors require effort and money and most members of the Fathers/Equal Parenting movements refuse to do anything more than complain. They certainly refuse to donate even the smallest donation preferring somebody else do it for them. I conclude most members of organizations like http://www.iowafathers.com care only about their individual cases and refuse to engage the political process beyond angry emails. I can count on my two hands the members who support this effort with money or by engaging public figures (by the way I don't count email). Those willing to selflessly work for a common good are more likely to succeed than not. For example, Megan’s Law resulted from those selfless enough to persevere on behalf of others despite the fact Megan was already gone and her parent’s could not benefit from the new law. In the end the Republican Senate hack did not influence my decision as much as the members of IowaFathers.com who heap scorn on any suggestion of money or effort (again, I don't count internet efforts). I can handle a short sighted hack lawyer who can't begin to comprehend what is happening to fathers and families but how do I explain the victims remaining silent when given a chance to make a difference? So it turns out HF22 which gave the option of Joint Physical Care was the movement's high water mark and Gronstal’s tenure has witnessed the roll back to the point judges like Stigler can routinely blast fathers without fear.
