What could be a better sign that we Polk County Republicans are coming back than the return of elephants to Blank Park Zoo.
Our Blank Park board and staff are doing a great job of growing the Zoo. Everyone in the county should be proud.
What does the readership think of building great animals of North America zoo right here in the geographic center of North America-Des Moines, Iowa? There’s every critter from Polar Bears and Musk Ox to Jaguars and the Mexican Grey Wolf on this continent. Most people in Central Iowa have never seen a mountain lion, ground hog or even a large snake, yet such animals live among us right here in Polk
Just a thought, what are yours?

I love animals. I hate to see them kept in a zoo but realize it may be the only way some of the species will survive.
Now I hate to do it to the animals but if we could just get the rest of you Pachyderm conservatives in your own section of the zoo, we might be able to make some progress in this country.
Speaking of shit, you should see the dung pile one of these things produces! Like fifteen footballs worth. And by God if you want to grow the best damn tomatoes you've ever tasted you plant them in pure Elephant shit. One bite and you'll stand up and say, "Damn!" for sure.

I absolutely agree, Richard, absolutely agree. And there's plenty of it to be had, too. Adult elephants shit about 330 lbs each day. Elephants don't have particularly efficient digestive systems, so about half of the food they consume ends up being passed through their body. Not only do they produce a lot of dung, but they do it frequently: Elephants shit approximately 15-18 times per day, which works out to each dung pile being about 20 lbs.
Never let it be said that sporie's blog is not the quintessential place for all the really important information of the day.
This is the kind of cultural crap that we (taxpayers) should not have to pay for! This is pork (elephant) pure and simple and is a waste of our money. Paying to have elephants in Des Moines is just like Pappa John Donating 30 million worth of sculpture and us having to pay 1 million to display it. Pure Pork!
I say no to Sculpture and no to elephants! This is not a constitutional purpose of government. Government has no business being in the the "zoo" business.
still:
Once you learn to read you'll understand.
Well, one things for sure; Fucks like Art, Richards, Hoyle and that piece of puke Mark Klein certainly have in common with elephants - they both drop a load of shit 15 to 18 times a day. Elephants at least do it in the grass (and from what I understand)it doesn't stink - those fucks push it out across the blogosphere, and by God it stinks alright.

Your mastery of the English language is astonishing.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha,
Har har har har har.
That's funny Arthur.
You can come over to my house and have a tomato sandwhich any time.

I went to the zoo today. Hadn't been there in years and was curious. The zoo is terrific. It's been improved with lots of good additions. I noticed that nearly everything had a private citizen's name who contributed private funds to build something at the zoo or the name of a corporate sponsor who provided the funds.
Gee, looks like we can fund entertainment, like zoos, with private money. Rich people actually contribute their own money to provide cultural attractions for us poor folks to enjoy.
thank you to everyone whose name I saw on a sign today. thank you for the very nice zoo.
Has anyone been to the taxpayer funded botanical center in the last 20 years?
How much is that boondoggle cultual amenity costing us taxpayers for no one to attend?
