GOPfest 08! Tim Pawlenty, Steve Roberts and much much more.

The Polk County annual Republican bash, GOPfest is now set. GOPfest ’08, featuring rapidly rising Republican star Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty (pictured left), will kick off around 4-5 p.m. on September 20 at the Seven Flags Event Center in Clive. We plan to rock it out until around 11-12 that night.

As our veterans known, GOPfest is a non-traditional Republican event. Although political in nature, we try to emphasize the social aspect of politics. Someone described it on another blog as the homecoming bonfire, and we take that as a compliment. We bring the rock bands and the Iowa GOP All-Stars; through in some good eats and a party atmosphere to produce a blast. The formula works ‘cause the event just grows from year to year. The crowd usually leaves fired up and ready for action.

Polk County also sponsors the Robert Ray Lifetime Contribution Award. Governors Robert Ray and Terry Branstad, Iowa’s greatest living Republicans, shared the award the first year. This year’s recipient is outgoing Iowa National Committeeman Steve Roberts, (pictured right)also one of Iowa’s greatest Republicans of the last half century. We certainly hope all of Steve's friends are there to share the moment.

The recipient of the Brett “Maverick” Porter Top Gun volunteer of the year will be announced and awarded at GOPfest. Although the Chairman may or may not undertake ten somersaults or jump through a hogshead of real fire, a splendid time is guaranteed to all.

We are keeping the cost at a ridiculously low $25 a head. GOPfest is so inexpensive that even a few Democrat bloggers like NoNeed, Des Moines Dem and John Deeth should swing by and rock the night away, pachyderm style of course. I’ve even heard the Hendersons will all be there, so you be there or be square.

Nice grab Mr. Chairman! It looks like Keg and Stewman couldn't stop this one.

How much for a picture?

Are non-blogger D's welcome? - Some of us may be tempted to check out those fabled hot R women.

Absolutely, love to have ya.

It really is the best political event in Iowa 'cause we focus on the capital "P" in party.

Huckabee was here in '05. Got up and jammed with the band on several numbers. People were stunned to see it. Once I heard Huck's full band I knew why, they are great!

Anyway, I'm going to make my old Democrat county chair Dad come so you probably won't be the most radical there.

Everyone out here in Virginia thinks that Pawlenty is a lock for VP.

They also think Huckabee turned it down.

Only $25 a person. You need to charge more.

Sporer,

I might actually show up. I just hope I can disguise myself as an R. No reason to take unnecessary risks in the middle of the general election campaign.

Speaking of Huckabee, I saw him at the Val Air Ballroom right before the caucus. My biggest surprise was the crowd Huckabee attracted. Definitely not the stereotypical country club crowd we D’s always envision at R events.

Do you have lemonade for the Social Cons? Are they allowed to dance? ;-)

Anonymous said...

There will be no sex allowed as it may lead to dancing. :)

rf, believe me, we are not at all the image projected on TV.

There will be dancing, drinking of lemonade from both lynchberg and lucy's cabinet and a lot of fun.

Show up, argue politely, toss back some beers and listen to Sonny Humbucker rock the grand old party.

I thought alcohol was EVIL - it leads to all kinds of nasty debauchery. You So-Cons have me so confused.

What about masturbation?

Anonymous said...

Can we smoke?

Anonymous said...

Thanks to the Democrat legislature, no one can smoke! (Unless we have gambling there, right?)

Anonymous said...

It won't be a party unless Mark Klein, M.D. shows up.

THE SMOKING BAN WOULD NOT HAVE PASSED WITHOUT REPUBLICANS!!!
