ICA Spring Kick Off Report

Congrats to Steve Scheffler and the crew over at the Iowa Christian Alliance for a great kick off event. The event produced a big turnout of Republicans of all stripes.

The event reminded me of how much Republicans have in common and how very much we differ with and from the Democrats. Even as you look out at the heavy turnout of Presidential candidates, and almost every Presidential candidate had a presence, the overall mood was one of unity. Of course, nothing like Democrats entrenching in power should tend to bring our herd together.

It was also great to see Bill Salier and Matt Whitaker back at a political venue. Matt was there in a purely personal capacity, I hasten to add. Bill is State Chair for Tom Tancredo, a good pairing, and was on duty, so to speak. Both Matt and Bill have very bright futures on our side of the aisle, if they want them. RVP was looking in fine form as both he and Danny Carroll were there for Mike Huckabee.

ICA also drew a big legislative crowd, too numerous to be individually named. Our Polk County delegation was well represented.
Betty De Boef of Keokuk County did a great job tonight, a great job. Although Betty got the mechanical oops of the week, I think we all know where she really stands on cloning and embryo trading, opposed, so that vote's strictly a mulligan.

Most of the state Party leadership made the trip. Ray and Leon both were in attendance. Big Killer came down from Waterloo, Bill Anderson from Sioux City and Reid Houser and his wife from Council Bluffs. Bonnie Hall and Larry Smith from Boone and Madison and the Real Sporer was really there as well. Chuck was working the crowd and almost the entire staff turned out-good job on the OT guys. Thank you!

Most importantly, the Republican mood seemed much, much more optimistic than at anytime since before Memorial Day last year. That was the best sign of all.

Good seeing you there last night, Sporer. Great recap! And you're right, it was a great mood in the crowd. Good to see old friends on new campaigns. Ultimately, even with friendly competition, we're all a team. Can't wait to move forward toward Nov. '08!

Thanks for the upbeat update Ted. It's nice to hear nice things about republicans instead of the filth you read on Krusty and Caucus Cooler about the other members of the family.

Glad you are on board and congratulations to Sheffler and crew.

"Matt was there in a purely personal capacity, I hasten to add." - And I'm sure you would have accepted the same line of reasoning if it had been a D with the same official position doing this stuff at an ACLU or Planned Parenthood event. Intellectual honesty and consistency are never closely associated with blind partisanship. And that surely goes for my fellow D's. They are not any better.

BTW, if you are still wondering what is behind Obamamania, his apparent willingness to part with this kind of crap explains a lot of it. This from The Sun Times after the recent Obama event in Des Moines:

Monica Green voted for George Bush last time. But at the town hall session, she was volunteering for Obama. She even contributed $250 to his campaign. She has never done that before, not even for a Republican. "I trust him when he says he wants to transform politics," she says. "Just call me a Republican voting for Barack Obama."

Couldn,t make it to that event. I had to hit he gym and do laundry. Both were better than listening to a bunch of hypocrites congratulate each other on losing an election.

Awesome recap Ted!

It was great to everyone again and I agree that the mood was much more optimistic.

Keep up the great work over here!

so RF, we won't be seeing Obama giving any speeches in black churches this time out? Democrats use churches as props. They, by theirs and your own undisguised admission, hate religion and religious people. You treat religion as a character flaw in those that practice or believe.

Yet, we'll see Democrat after Democrat candidate attend black churches where the political rhetoric is over the top.

So, as soon as someone is appointed to a government job, they must quit attending church? Is that what government service requires from a democrat administration?

Monica Green sounds like the usual prop that the register always seems to find at a democrat event. Remember the pop can lady from a few years ago? She was a complete fraud as it turned out. Turned out by the democrats.

Sorry, I was a bit unclear with the crap remark. I was referring to the blind partisan apologists and attack dogs on both sides. Many of us partisans love the red meat stuff. Most real voters are sick of it. My crap reference had nothing to do with church or people going to church.

Re: Monica Green. First of all, the story was not in the Register. Second, I do know she’s for real. She was the second fellow volunteer at the event I happened to talk to. I’m not saying it’s a big deal. People like her are certainly not going to win the nomination for Obama or anyone else. And of course there are D’s in the mold of Lieberman & Zell Miller who are supportive of R’s. Still, it was interesting to talk to Monica.

ICA nonpartisan? Yeah, just like Iowans for Sensible Priorities and Planned Parenthood. They are all officially nonpartisan because they have to, due to IRS regulations. We all know the reality. Obviously Sporer takes it for granted with ICA: “The event produced a big turnout of Republicans of all stripes. The event reminded me of how much Republicans have in common and how very much we differ with and from the Democrats.”
