One of our new features here at the Real Sporer is going to be expanded and ground level coverage of the Republican race to Caucus Day here in Iowa. Since even the Real Sporer and his secret police can’t be everywhere-we’re more like “Little Brother”-I have enlisted a network of Real War Correspondents to cover the Iowa Presidential campaign events. Some will be anonymous, some well known.
This morning’s report comes from my colleague Mark Lucas. Mark is a State Central Committee member for the Second District and the State Director for the FairTax. Mark will not endorse any presidential candidate until they are selected as the Republican nominee.
Congressman Tom Tancredo hosted a town hall meeting at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Friday, May 11th. There were roughly 50 people in attendance, including members from the Des Moines Register and Cedar Rapids Gazette. Tancredo seemed to excel in this type of atmosphere, when compared to the debate held at the Reagan Library a week or two earlier where he visibly struggled with 30 second time allotments. Unsurprising to most, the Congressman spent the first 20 minutes of a two hour meeting talking about immigration and border policy. He moved on to Iraq, where he focused on the role congress should fulfill during a time ofwar and criticized his colleagues "General Pelosi and General Reid."
After speaking about immigration and Iraq he opened it up to questions. [Mark] asked the first question in regards to tax reform, knowing he is a co-sponsor of House Resolution 25 the FairTax Act; ...how [the Congressman] he felt that some of the candidates for President believe the FairTax is the best solution, but won't support it because they fear it's unlikely to be passed by congress. He chuckled and said that he has always been a person about ideas, and that he has never supported an issue because of its chances of being passed in congress. He also described his strong support for the FairTax and the effects it will have on our nation's economy.
The question that received the most press was from a person that resented the term "illegal alien" because it reminded her of peoplefrom "outer space." It was truly a goofy question but more of a statement and was a small part of the town hall meeting. Overall, the congressman seemed somewhat tired and reaching for wordson Iraq and taxes, but was very sharp when talking about immigration. The crowd really seemed to like him and one person specifically thanked him for his "genuine kindness and sincerity."

Nice feature Sporer. Will other central committee members be contributing?
Well said by Lucas.
Chairman,
I like the new look to your blog.
I am surprised you havent had a post bidding farewell to Krusty. Can you elaborate as to the backstabbing..etc that he/she references?
This is an interesting new feature. People should be interested in what is going on in Iowa with the presidentials.
Sporer, you are starting to sound like a journalist. What gives?
It is amazing that Tancredo and Hunter are polling so low with immigration being the top issue in 2008. The list of Top Ten Conservative Issues for 2008:
1. Illegal immigration — 86%
2. War on terrorism — 80%
3. Federal spending – 65%
4. Supreme Court and other judicial appointments — 64%
5. Flat tax/tax cuts — 61%
6. Size of government — 61%
7. Iraq — 55%
8. Social Security — 45%
9. Entitlement programs — 38%
10. Abortion — 36%

Sporer - LOVE the new contributions. I especially like the idea of getting political news from around the state from those closest to it from the voter's perspective.
This has lots of potential as a method to connect our like minded folks together for our common good
(electing republicans!)
the krusty farewell speech sounded like Nixon's "you won't have Richard Nixon to kick around anymore" speech.
I guess he took his ball and went home.
