The Big Lug Hits the Road

We here at the Real Sporer had our eye on Democrats yesterday. One of our undercover Real War Correspondents secretly drop in on the Gov. Chet “the Big Lug” Culver as he took his dog and pony show to Council Bluffs. Our very own Don’t Run With Scissors filed the following short report of Gov. Lug’s trip to the Missouri yesterday.

Culver moved the Capital for a Day to the Western Historic Trails Center in Pottawattamie County We had to endure lame jokes from Mike Gronstal (I realize this is redundant because he is a joke). A crowd of about 100 people, including well known democrats from Mills and Pottawattamie Counties waited and waited and waited for Culver to arrive. At about 2 PM (an hour after the scheduled start time) Kevin Concannon, Director of Health and Human Services delivered a short speech to fill time and then Matthew Schultz, Council Bluffs City Councilman, introduced Culver. The honor fell to Matthew as Mayor Tom Hanafan is out of town. Culver read an official proclamation declaring the Capital had been moved to Council Bluffs for one day.
He then proceeded to read his opening remarks. I can't believe he had to read things like "It is so nice to be here this afternoon". The theme for the day was "Promises Made -- Promises Kept" and I had some good questions ready for Culver since he made a point of billing the afternoon as getting to know what the people want and to answer their questions. To my dismay he didn't take questions from the floor...you had to fill out a special form with name, address, phone etc and write your question or concern on it and hold it in your hand and stand in line and wait. Of course there was limited time since Culver was so late arriving. So my questions went unanswered.

Good try, Don't Run. We need to have questions ready every time the Dems come near-questions for which I feel they won't have an answer. Never known to be quick on his feet, the Big Lug and a few of the lug nuts were not in Council Bluffs to learn what people want, that’s why the hire pollsters, but rather to tell the people what the Democrats want them to know.

I have to agree, the Big Lug’s reliance on prepared texts and shaky ability to verbally express himself is not a confidence builder for me. As I said many times before the ’06 election, in this respect Culver reminds me of another elected leader we have in this country.

Me, Too!!!! Both had successful Dads they are trying to imitate. Neither measures up.

But I think the similarities are limited beyond that. Culver seems to lack the inferiority demons that dog the alcoholic "I'm the Decider" son we are not naming here.

Mike "a mind is a terrible thing to waste" Gronstal will not be helping anybody campaign next year and will require constant visits from Culver and Democratic heavyweights to save his seat.

I still say iowafathers.com gets him knocked out with our negative adds but it does take a Republican to run against him. Is there a decent Republican ready to take out Grumpy Gronstal?

rf-b. hussein obama drives a Hemi Chrysler 300?????

While I admire his taste-I think the 300s are the best looking car in the world-that isn't a very carbon offsetting vehicle.

and I'll take one of those indulgences as well said...

Carbon offsets are a scam.

I'm personally not really liking the 300 as a car, but I forgive Obama for that. 300 certainly is no Prius. But accroding to the Chrysler site, its EPA mileage estimates are 17/24. Those EPA figures are always a bit better than actual mileage, but that's not too bad for a larger vehicle with a V8.

You guys couldn't get the bill passed for shared care. In fact, your group is the reason it was not passed. I heard Republican Leadership had the votes together, but it was only when you guys showed up, was the bill shelved. In fact, I heard you were warned by staff to get back or the bill would be shelved and you ignored staff and met with Gronstal anyway. Thanks alot. You do nothing for Dads and will do nothing to help Republicans take out Gronstal because you are a fringe group with no tact! It is too bad, because alot of Dads needed that bill and the votes were their according to Republican staffers. Shame on you.

republicans voted against a bill not because they thought it was a bad bill but because they didn't follow orders???

huh? who made that decision?

Our raison d'ĂȘtre here at TRS

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.” John Stuart Mill

We at The Real Sporer believe that the crises of our generation is the preservation of a United States of America based on fundamental rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Oddly enough, our generation, that grew in the quiet and secure 50s, 60s and 70s and thought we could escape history now find ourselves at the cross roads of history. At a time when the prevailing media, academic and even now industrial elites find the easy road of paternalistic socialist totalitarianism more expedient to travel we are convinced that only preserving the more traditional America will better provide the well known blessings of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to us and our posterity.

In the real world, the Republican freedom agenda is the only alternative to the thought police and rations commissar of the socialist nanny state. But the agenda that we share with the founding generation, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, will never again prevail if we don't fight our generation's battle to renew America's commitment to freedom with our socialist adversaries.

Our mission statement is therefore clear: provide the information and argument that leads to a Republican Renaissance and Republican governance.
