Sunday Talk Review-Meet the Press (NBC)-John Edwards shows he's not just shallow.

Tim Russert displayed some tenacity and pugnacity in his interview. It seems that Edwards smug, self-serving and grossly hypocritical persona and life style grates on liberals too.

Russert began with Bill Richardson’s critique of the Edwards/Clinton position on Iraq. Richardson hs now joined Dennis Kucinich on the lunatic fringe of not just wanting out of Iraq but actually proposing such precipitous flight that we leave equipment behind like the Brits at Dunkirk., leaving no one behind to even guard the Embassy (or maybe not even leaving an embassy). Edwards would leave forces behind to guard the Embassy and a reaction force in Kuwait. The Breck Girl insists that the reaction force would only fight Al Qaeda in Iraq from Kuwait. If we cannot subdue Al Qaeda with 150,000 combat soldiers and marines based inside the battle zone in Iraq (the premise of Democrat opposition to the surge) then how would a much smaller force that is remote from the battlefield increase the probability of battlefield victory? Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.

Edwards was then confronted with the Kerry like flip-flop on Iraq. Russet even went so far as to expose Edwards’ sponsorship of the Iraq war resolution. Edwards glossed over his enormous flip on Iraq but he did advocate sending bills that conditions war funding on a time table for withdrawal (which in grammatical and historical terms is known as “defeat”) to the President everyday. Daily confrontation, that’s the keystone to unity.

Russert stayed on the massive Edwards’ Iraq flip with the tenacity of a terrier. Edwards ‘ response was his stump speech, which Russert amazingly let him make, although he did work a statement into the mix that Iraq was much worse than it was in 2003-2004, which flies in the face of every objective fact.

Russert then pounced on what is perhaps the most offensive of Edwards’ many garish hypocrisies, the lavish hedge fund furnished life style lead by Mr. Two Americas. Edwards responded with a speech about his lifetime commitment to poverty, “what [his] life has been about”-fighting poverty. It would seem a substantial body of evidence supports the proposition that Edwards has fabulously enriched himself during this crusade against poverty. The most recent enrichment has come from a hedge fund that profited from the foreclosure of sub-prime home mortgages.
Edwards reiterated his belief that Evita would simply substitute a group of corporate Republicans with corporate Democrats. That sounds good to his base. Edwards continues to draw “distinctions” with Hillary. The primary distinction appears to be a lack of money and credibility.

Edwards displayed all the characteristics of an old tie. You know its still in the closet, you see it every day but it never makes the collar because it is just too out of style.

"Edwards reiterated his belief that Evita would simply substitute a group of corporate Republicans with corporate Democrats."

I'm in this race so that we won't have a goverment owned and operated by Wall Street and corporate interests. Time to recall we were once the party of Trust Busters like Teddy Roosevelt and Bob Lafollette.

I'm no socialist. Almost my entire income comes from stock dividends from investments I made from scratch not inheritance.

Business and banking today have forgotten their responsiilities to the community. They bring to mind physicians who pad their incomes with loose prescribing standards for controlled substances.

In what ways are Guiliani and Romney different than "Evita" and the other Democratic hopefuls when it comes to dancing to Big Money's tune?

Klein I absolutely want to vomit in your presense. My God, Man, could you be any more pompous? And drop the "Doctor" routine. By your own admission you have not practiced in nearly three decades.

Edwards is toast. His ship has been sinking slow and steady in Iowa, and I don't see him getting his mojo back. I don't think there is any way he can win Iowa, which he will need to do in order to credibly campaign beyond the caucuses.

Anonymous--Given youR weak stomach best we not meet.

Rather than pompous a better description might be self-confident, assertive, and unafraid. No doubt I instill anxiety because political correctness demands men behave like whipped dogs.

I'm at the tail end of the last generation of men which were in a position to work through Oedipal struggles.

Hillary Clinton brings to mind the crack about Golda Meir as "the only man in the (Israel government's) cabinet"!

Blows my mind how pussy whipped men are today!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WASHINGTON (Map, News) - Sandy Berger, who stole highly classified terrorism documents from the National Archives, destroyed them and lied to investigators, is now an adviser to presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. Berger, who was fired from John Kerry’s presidential campaign when the scandal broke in 2004, has assumed a similar role in Clinton’s campaign, even though his security clearance has been suspended until September 2008. This is raising eyebrows even among Clinton’s admirers. “It shows poor judgment and a lack of regard for Berger’s serious misdeeds,” said law professor Jonathan Adler of Case Western Reserve University, who nonetheless called Clinton “by far the most impressive candidate in the Democratic field.”

Adler told The Examiner that it is “simply incomprehensible to me that a serious contender for the presidency would rely upon him as a key foreign policy advisor

wow..the "most impressive candidate in the Democratic field" is using the guy kerry fired for being corrupt. this tells you a lot about the democrat party.

it's the whatever it takes party...whatever crime needs to happen is ok.

I think we can assume that Sandy was stealing documents to protect Hillary and Bill over 9-11. You really can't come up with any other alternate assumption.

Another FOB committing crimes for Mr and Mrs. Soprano.

Berger has admitted stealing documents from the National Archives in advance of the 9/11 Commission hearings in 2003. The documents, written by White House counterterrorism czar Richard Clarke, were a “tough review” of the Clinton administration’s shortcomings in dealing with terrorism, Clarke’s lawyer told the Washington Post.

Anonymous: "What's next, pal, you gonna start refering to Hillary as a "cunt"?"

Your words, not mine!

No fan but she's the only major candidate with some real cohones.

Unresolved Oedipal issues in the generations behind me is the reason she's more popular with men. Middle age and older women have her number. The utterly over-the-top hostility from conservative Republicans is the mirror image of that dynamic.

Sometimes even I'm at a loss for words. Did my retail campaigning shtick today chatting with diners and handing out brochures in a local eatery. A very well dressed man with an educated face refused my brochure saying, "All I want is someone to blow the shit out of the Muslims!"
