Iowa Republican County Officials Association-Our Grass Roots

TRS had the very distinct privilege to be invited to a reception sponsored by and for the Iowa Republican County Officials Association. IRCOA was founded back in 2003. I don’t know all of the founders but I do know two: Story County Treasurer David Jamison and Clarke County Treasurer Kim Reynolds. The Beauty and the Beast political combination had a vision that the entire Republican Party could benefit from the hundreds of Republican county elected officials. I’ve heard both discuss it often.

Dave and Kim are right. The county officials are a crucial element of any Republican rebirth in Iowa. Republican county officials win hundreds of elections every cycle. More than ever we need to vertically integrate such successful political operations into a state wide effort and horizontally integrate such leadership figures into GOP turnout teams in their respective county and legislative districts-and we need to begin this process something like right now.

Successful revolution requires ideological, political and organizational synergy. What I saw in the room tonight even further convinces me that we have the people and quite soon they just might have the plan.

Pray tell the unwashed what is the ideology of this "successful revolution"?

Why, do you want to know if Iowa needs a David Koresh figure?

Mark Klein right now is leading in all the unofficial polls in Iowa. He has Iowa and New Hampshire clearly won. I drove by Frank Stalone's campaign headquarters today as he admitted that there is no fighting the Klein onslaught. Amazing that all these candidates build organizations make phone calls and work hard only to lose to Mark Klein's Caucus machine.

yeah..that caucus machine of a MySpace page and kookie old man behind a computer in California...

The growth of the GOP in Iowa depends on begging the moderates to return to bring some semblance of sanity to the party. We moderates left when the caucuses started resembling a snake handlers service rather than a political party forum. One woman in 1996 wanted all constitutional amendmendts disolved after the 10 th amendment until I pointed out that she would lose the right to vote.
The local GOP are filled with evangelicals, crackpots and the mean spirited opportunists who guide this once great party into oblivion.
It is time for the moderates and the intellectuals to take back the party.

Spook Jerry, I agree 100%. I would however amend one sentence as follows:

The GOP is filled with evangelicals, crackpots, mean spirited opportunists, and fucking idiots like Mark Klein, who guide this once great party into oblivion.

It is time for the moderates and the intellectuals to take back the party.
