Another Iowa debate may be more than spectral conjecture.

Is any Republican happy or even tolerably satisfied, with the content and nature of the last two GOP debates? None with whom TRS has spoken, to be sure.

Apparently some of the GOP candidates aren’t either. Not surprising. I’m sure that each GOP contender would like an opportunity to reach the 45% of the Iowa electorate that remains either undecided or very softly committed to a candidate.

While liberal editors, publishers and “on air personalities” have been quite amused by the caricatures of Republicans, conservative ideology and even the concept of reasoned debate that have been produced by the last two debates the country, and specifically the GOP primary voter, needs better if we are going to make the most informed electoral decision next spring. Those of us in the Republican ranks that remain persuadable have been cheated of the opportunity to listen to Huck discuss foreign policy; to Rudy G explain the intellectual consistency of federalist type judges and a reversal of Roe v. Wade or the rejection of a penumbral right of homosexuals to marry; to Mitt confront an difficult and unscripted moment where his humanity, rather than his efficiency, is displayed; or maybe even where Fred gets more than sixty seconds to demonstrate his extensive grasp of policy.

Market economics may deliver the answer. Campaigns have expressed an interest in one more go at debating before the Iowa Caucus. A structure is already prepared to host such a debate-one in which the candidates debate each other and not supercilious Democrats or caricature Republicans. The structure would allow the candidates go at each other.

So if you want to see another debate, express your opinion here-----‘cause America needs something better than we’ve seen if the process truly will produce the best candidate to face t he Drama of Obama or the 21st Century Evita.

Ted,

I'd be all for another one! Let the political drama live and let the real candidates talk about the issues that matter!

No more questions about new year's resolutions and no more questions about the confederate flag!

Again and again, he struck at the foundations of Mrs Clinton's candidacy - the sense of entitlement, the presence of a Bush or a Clinton in the White House since 1988, the trench warfare with Republicans. "We don't just need candidates who are focused on how to win," he said. "We need leadership that focuses on why we should win

Perhaps the fatal flaw of Mrs Clinton's campaign is her husband. On the campaign trail, Bill Clinton is adored by Democrats but talks endlessly about himself. Her implicit claim to be striking a blow for feminism is undermined by his presence, which reminds people that without him she would be nothing.

And while Bill's 1992 campaign was about a new generation taking over Washington, his wife's seems - to modify his slogan of 15 years ago - to be about building a bridge back to the 20th century.

I'd like another debate, but honestly I don’t see it happening. Were less than 20 working days out from the caucus. I would gather that by this point, the major campaigns have already locked in their schedules for Iowa and across the county. The likelihood of ever major campaign coming up with a date and time that would work for all of them would be like trying to squeeze a square peg through a round hole.

If Mitt had not bailed on the debate on the 4th, we wouldn’t be having this conversation, but he did and now we’re probably stuck with the crappy Des Moines Register debate as the last one before the caucus.

Ouch!

With all these liberal debates all turning out the same, it almost makes you wonder if Hillary said aloud to her running dogs in the media (a.k.a. the vast left wing conspiracy) "gee, wouldn't it be grand if we could rig the debates to work for my benefit?"

"If it's good for me, it's good for you." Bill Clinton explaining the greater good of the strategy.

The story in today's New York Times of Huckabee about getting money under the table via the tobacco industry to make family ends meet as Arkansas' very low paid lieutenant governor and governor explains Hillary Clinton's money grubbing when Bill was in the state house.

The larger issue is we're governed by a professional political class on the take because legislative and executive jobs don't pay enough for people to support their families.

Get a laugh telling folks without the free apartment over the Oval Office I couldn't afford a home to buy, or rent, in Washington suitable to entertain and greet official guests.

One very severe cost of the bipartisan politically motivated* relentless depreciation of the dollar in the decline in number brightest men and women with families to seeking government service.

Saw evidence of that two years ago when I met with Senate Banking Committee's Democratic and Republican staff chiefs and their assistants in lieu of permission to testify against Bernanke's appointment as Fed chief. Maybe the chiefs made about $100K but their underlings probably $50K or less.

Among other things warned them about the impending subprime catastrophe and the global risks to the credit markets. They scoffed at such an outcome. Came away thinking they simply didn't have the intellectual firepower to understand what I was saying. Their contemporaries who did were making millions on Wall Street peddling that crap!

Another black mark in Huckabee's copy book is his shinanigans netted him all of $60,000. Hillary's real pro. A sign of her intelligence she got millions for selling her soul!

*Heaven forbid Americans should be asked to make real sacrifices!

“The only way out of this mess is for me to make a credible showing in the New Hampshire GOP primary in 27 days. Doing that will send the unmistakable message ordinary voters are fed up with these financial shinanigans and want real change.

While largely ignored by the major media, New Hampshire is small enough for me and my volunteers to paper it with campaign signs, and meet large numbers of voters.

Will reach a large segment of the better informed electorate with my purchase of the back cover of the Concord Monitor’s election guide issue coming out among shortly. In the color ad I specifically address the risk of an American bankruptcy and a national political collapse reminiscent of the Soviets. In our case the consequences of a political collapse would be participation in the North American Union operated so that a “Brussels”, likely situated in Mexico or Canada, would make the real decisions.

New Hampshire is the last bastion of real democracy in America. Just takes a $1000 fee to get on the presidential primary ballot. Add to that 45% of the electorate registered independent with the right to vote either party slate.

2- A spineless national leadership which allows the relentless destruction of the dollar and with that peoples' savings and investments. The strong Amero under a North American Union in which America loses its core sovereignty could be price we pay for self indulgence and political correctness in everything.

Could go on and on but have other things to do like winning the New Hampshire primary in 23 days. Manchester's main drags should be plowed by now so out I go for some campaigning tonight.

Has Hillary Clinton's candidacy for the Democrats' nomination gone from "inevitable" to "doomed" in the space of a few weeks?

Is it possible that Bill Clinton secretly or unconsciously is sabotaging Hillary's campaign?

It cannot be ruled out. Nobody else has access to the private thoughts of the man, but I have to wonder how many times between 1992 and 2000 he trumped her in a a policy or other dispue with the argument that he is the president and she is not.

For every single time he used that line, he can expect to have it used against him in a Hillary presidency.

Considering the number of reasons she has to be upset with him, the prospect of vengeance from the most powerful woman in the world must be at least slightly unsettling.

Lost where? I have no chance in Iowa because the party is so hostile to me I have no confidence the votes I get will be fairly counted and reported. Besides, I suspect the caucuses will be rigged to give Huckabee a win regardless of the raw count.

Should I fail to turn in a credible performance in New Hampshire I will leave the GOP to becomes an independent. I make no promises but should I leave makes no sense to stay involved in day to day GOP politics.

Once the caucuses are over, hard to see why I'd bother anyway. The Iowa party's crooked and most of the people who comment here are crackpots. If the GOP is smart, diminishing the influence of the Iowa caucuses in future elections should be a top priority should it wish to remain a serious national political force.

Hillary doesn’t have to worry about her face. She has to worry about her mask. Back in the ’92 race, Clinton pollsters devised strategies to humanize her and make her seem more warm and maternal. Fifteen years later, her campaign is devising strategies to humanize her and make her seem more warm and maternal.

The public still has no idea of what part of her is stage-managed and focus-grouped, and what part is legit. It’s pretty pathetic, at this stage of her career, that she has to wage a major offensive, by helicopter and Web testimonials, to make herself appear warm-blooded.

For me the mimimal credible performance in the NH primary is beating at least one of well known GOP candidates. If I can't do at least that, it means my ideas have no significant currency with a substantial sector of the GOP grassroots. To continue would be a waste of my time and resources. If fiscally prudent, I'll play very long odds for a fabulous prize, but I don't do impossible odds.

I win either way. A good showing makes me a contender and a national political figure. In losing I'll return home very proud of what I did having had the experience of a lifetime by making a serious try for POTUS. Among my souvenirs will be a framed copy of the NH primary ballot listing my name!

Another benefit is I feel emotionally and spiritually very much like I did in the wonder years of my medical education and starting out in practice with a new family with life unfolding before me. For that alone it was worth it.

The challenge and vigors of person to person campaigning diminished somewhat the physical limitations of my neuromuscular disorder.

In no other country could an obscure person with very little money and no political connections credibly challenge for national leadership.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

December 20, 2007 - From the New York Post

Owe, brother!

Hillary Rodham Clinton's youngest sibling is a deadbeat dad who owes tens of thousands of dollars in child support to his politically connected ex, The Post has learned.

In a disclosure that could prove embarrassing for his sister, Anthony Rodham has stiffed his former wife, Nicole Boxer, out of $75,000 in child support, as well as $55,000 in alimony, a source close to the case said.

Including interest and various fees and expenses, the presidential candidate's brother now owes Boxer - the daughter of Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) - more than $158,000, the source said.

The revelation that Rodham is delinquent with his payments won't be a welcome development for Hillary Clinton, coming as the too-close-to-call battle for the Democratic presidential nomination reaches a fevered pitch and with the first votes to be cast in Iowa in exactly two weeks.

Barbara Boxer has not endorsed a candidate in the race.

Nicole Boxer received judgments from a Washington judge ordering Rodham to pay up earlier this year, but the cash-strapped business consultant has yet to fork over the hefty sums.

"He has consistently been a deadbeat dad when it comes to paying child support and spousal support, despite the courts telling him over and over again that he must meet his obligations," a source close to Nicole Boxer said.

Rodham, 53, married Boxer in the White House Rose Garden in 1994, when his brother-in-law, Bill Clinton, was president.

The Nicole Boxer source blasted Rodham's settlement offers as "just another dodge from meeting his obligations to his former wife and son while he lives in his fancy Washington town house" with his new wife, whom he married in 2005.

A former insurance salesman, prison guard and private eye, Rodham has been a headache for the former and possibly future first family before.

He and his brother Hugh embarrassed the Clintons in 1999 with a politically perilous plan to import hazelnuts from the former Soviet republic of Georgia.

He also became a figure in the "Pardongate" scandal, when it was revealed that he lobbied Bill Clinton to pardon two embezzlers.

Rodham made headlines again shortly after his split from Nicole, when he was attacked at his family cottage in the Berkshires by a man who claimed he saw Rodham having sex with his girlfriend.

Rodham later testified that he "might have" smoked pot with the woman.

Anonymous said...

Snowed in today have the time to add my 2 cents!

To make sense of this story we need to know whether the child support order is fair, and the ex is giving young Rodham trouble seeing the children. Both are often motivating factors in fathers falling behind in child support.

Just imagine the sense of entitlement and feminist self righeousness Barbara Boxer's daughter might have. She might well be the villain of this story.

Keyes 2008 is not exactly a credible candidate as his campaign is a non-starter. Keyes 1996 and 2000 were noteworthy but nonetheless they were protest campaigns and even during those campaigns Alan was not a "credible" candidate.

So Klein is basically benchmarking people who are not running for President at this point - nice touch buddy!

I noticed old doctor bizarro Kleinkerstein never commiteed to leaving this blog alone after the caucus - what a surprise! Rather like a social disease he's the gift that keeps giving.

While A at 6:46 PM was foaming at the mouth, I was out campaigning as I shopped tonight. I offer my hand and brochure to every New Hampshire person I encounter. 9 of out take my very attractive policy rich brochure and immediately start reading it. No longer amazed to see people walk off deeply engrossed reading it.

Get great feedback. At Home Depot today a clerk who got one several days ago came up to me to say he was voting for me. Said he passed the brochure to friends and talked up my campaign.

The snow kept me close to the hotel area today. Still managed to talk with dozens of people in nearby stores and restaurants and handED out almost 200 brochures. Several took extras for friends and family.

For a pdf copy of the brochure e-mail me at mark@drmarkklein.com.

Anonymous said...

HOLY COW! 200 Brochures in one day! Wow, as a person who has run for political office I can tell you handing out 200 brochures in one day is a good start if you were running for school board and the election were at least three months away. Unfortunately, running for President with two weeks before the Iowa Caucus means you should be a little further along. But, hey for a guy who has some random guy at Home Depot assuring all his friends will vote for Doctor Whacko you must really have this vote in the bag so "What Me Worry?"

Seriously, will you answer the freaking question here which is only the following:

WILL YOU LEAVE US ALONE AFTER YOU LOSE IN IOWA?

What possible excuse would you have after our Caucus on Iowa 3rd? For that matter what business do you have after NH when even Alan Keyes will beat you like a drum if he's on the ballot? You're going to get stomped so bad the only positive will be that you got listed on the ballot and somebody somewhere may actually mention the 20 statewide votes you'll probably get.

Yet, there is a chance you will get a few hundred if the fathers rights people in NH believe you are coherent and actually interested in their issues. I suspect fathers rights organizations in NH quickly discovered you are completely nutz just like the organization did in Iowa so my real guess is you will get 20 votes of which a good 50% will be accidental protest votes.

So again, will you buzz off after Iowa and NH votes? If you don't buzz off it is only because you're insane.

While I didn't warn MLB about steroids, my activism has been very useful.

I may have been instrumental in saving independent Christian education in this country. President Carter proposed a rule which would have stripped private schools of their tax exempt status unless their enrollment matched the racial composition of their community.

At the time I was on the board of an orthodox Jewish day school in Oakland, CA. No way could we survive such a rule. I complained to end up being invited by Rep. Crane to testify before the full House Ways and Means Committee to state my opposition. As the only Jewish opposition witness, my testimony carried considerable weight. That added to the firestorm of criticism from the Christian community got congress to block the rule change.

We wouldn't be in the subprime mess today had the Senate Banking Committee taken my advice at a 2 hour private meeting with Democratic and Republican staff chiefs and their assistants two years ago. Got the meeting in lieu of permission to testify in opposition to Bernanke's appointment as Fed chief.

The party Eisenhower led has become a gang of fools, knaves, and crooks. Perhaps there are still enough good left in the grassroots to induce me to stay in the party. I'll know the answer on Jan 8, 2008.

Fred Storm Rising

For those of you, who missed the highlights of an otherwise disappointing debate in Iowa, please go to www.fred08.com. For those of you who share my affinity for the media, you will truly appreciate Fred’s performance.

This is the kind of thing that I have been trying to articulate about Fred Thompson. He doesn’t kowtow to the media and they HATE him for it! That is why despite a solid conservative record, and a very appealing style, the media has chosen to ordain Mike Huckabee “The Conservative Candidate” to challenge Romney.

But if you do consider yourself a conservative, and truly want to select a candidate who holds the same beliefs we do, than do a side by side comparison on the issues between Romney, Huckabee and Thompson. If you go to the “issues” section of the Fred Thompson web site there is one provided.

Look, I will support the candidate who gets the Republican nomination, but I am not willing to start settling just yet!

Fred Thompson’s campaign doesn’t excite me because he has the best network, or highest paid consultants. His campaign INSPIRES ME because I have a candidate who doesn’t force me to compromise my corps beliefs by casting a vote for him!

Romney and Huckabee with all their strong points require me to ignore issues which are near and dear to me.

Does anyone honestly believe that Romney would be touting his pro life/gun credentials if he was running for another term in Massachusetts?

Does anyone believe that Huckabee would really be tuff on crime or immigration when his record shows the opposite in Arkansas?

There is one conservative in this race whose record matches his rhetoric, one candidate whose presence and ability to articulate our principles makes him ideal for making our case to the nation, and that candidate is Fred Thompson.

I for one will not permit the media, of all things, to disregard a candidate who provides the greatest promise of a return to sound conservative governance.

So listen closely the next time you here someone running down Fred Thompson. You will notice that there is no mention of his policies or voting record, just the irrelevant claim that his campaign lacks “buzz” or “pizzazz” or whatever adjective the media has now deemed as critical to holding the highest office in the land.

Fred's a real candidate known outside of his own mind and a few blogs for that matter. I am not voting for Fred but I am excited he's running though which I cannot say for the guy running for President only in his own mind.

just the sort of comments from anonymous people I expect.

I was anon 11:25am and I was slamming Klein and giving kudos to Senator Fred Thompson but I didn't make my point very clear so I can see why it may appear to be a slam. Anyway, Senator Thompson would make a fantastic President if elected and he's a real candidate to be sure - unlike our terrorist blogger Klein.

I am not supporting Senator Thompson as I really like Huck but that doesn't mean I don't like Fred.

Hope that clarifies.

Little Buddy--Given the concentration of most NH's population within a 30 minute driving radius from Manchester, and 45% of the electorate registered independent, campaigning in NH is very much like running for school board.

(Independents can vote in either major party primary. NH has election day registration and reregistration.)

This NY Times profile of Huckabee brings to mind movies like "Elmer Gantry", "A Face in the Crowd", and the original version of "All The King's Men".

Oh Ted
Please update your site most of your readers need to know what thoughts to think today!

Sorry, sheeple, Ted is on a bender as he is trying to bone up on the "evangelical" Bible Just in case Huckabilly wins the nomination.

Even your favorite drug addict philosopher" Rush" has been trying to stem the evangelical Visigoths who are storming the gates of GOP power.

Really folks , At least when Reverend Huckabilly commands you to fall on your knees in supplication there is a less of a chance that he will be asking for oral sex than if was from the existing GOP power structure. God bless you rev haggard, dobson, Senators craig and Vitter.

Who will be the candidate who will blunt these evangelical avenging angels?
Not Mitt, he is too busy trying digaltize old news footage to make it look as if he and the entire Osmond family marched with MLK Jr.

Not Fred, He is too busy telling old people the SS and secure pensions are not for the little people! Well that and the fact that he has been dead since Thanksgiving but his staff hasn't noticed.
Not Tancredo, he quit so that he can hang out at a tyson meat plant fence, pretend it is the mexico border and take pot shots at the mexicans.

Certainly not Rudy,Though His air of corruption and hypocrisy makes him the ideal GOP candidate for the few members left who have not converted to the rapture. his main problem is that will the American public elect a first couple who spends more time treating their herpes outbreaks than tending to his transparently/ opaque governing style.

The GOP 's only choice is to exhume Alf Landons Corpse and run him. His ideas are fresher and he is more attractive than this current crop.

Enjoy this Xmas as next year church will me mandated.

Spook Jerry Chevrolet, that is one beautiful post, my friend. A classic. Hilarious in a Colbert
Report kind of way.

Dammit Sporer where are you anyway?

And Mark Klein, you were well overdue to indulge us with with what movie, or other work of fiction, related to current events. Give it a rest, Mark. A sad, lonely, bitter, old man slipping into empty afternoon showings, wearing an oversize coat to sneak in candy, snacks, and a flask of tap water. Projecting his image onto that of the hero. Mark Klein saves the world! Hey, we all do it, but what sets us apart from Klein is that we ultimately can tell the difference between fantasy and reality. No sense imploring Klein to go away, or leave us alone; we're all the pathetic creep has............

What a shame.

By the way Mark, where's the piece from the nationally known reporter in the nationally known major news weekly? The piece that's going to swing this election to you.

From what I saw today at a Clinton rally in Milford, NH we should only be so lucky to run again her.

Milford is one of larger villages in southern NH. Ran into the Hillary show this afternoon. There were about 200 people all of whom appeared to be staffers. At the perifery of trhe crowd were a small number locals who turned out to be Republicans. The tv footage was staged to make it look like a much larger crowd.

Clinton didn't speak. Popped out of her campaign bus for lunch and afterwards to shake a few hands.

Wow. My heavens this ordinary looking late middle aged woman with a hard face is the invinceable dragon lady Repubican men are so scared of? Talk about castration anxiety!

As of tomorrow only 16 days to the primary.

A @ 7:30--Wasn't making fun of Clinton's looks. Your irrational anger suggests my castration anxiety comment struck home.

Chelsea was there. Thought she was an attractive young women with a very intelligent face and friendly demeanor.

All these coarse aspersions on my personality likely reflect the inner psychological turmoil of their makers. Those who know me find me quite upbeat, friendly, intelligent and at times very funny. A good example of the latter happened today campaigning. A voter asked me to compare what I as a physician brought to the White House as compared to Ron Paul. Got a knowing laugh replying we need a shrink in Oval Office a lot more than an OB.

I think my critics employing foul language are disturbed people projecting their fears and anxieties onto me.

Klein should take note that Clinton actually has a campaign rather than simply showing up to the rallies of others.

The only question is will Klein leave us after January 3rd or are we all this lonely man has left? God help me I don't end up like Klein but I can tell you his actions have influenced me, and probably many others, to greatly curtail my blogging since I don't want to be like him.

Bye, bye Miss American Pie!

"... to greatly curtail my blogging since I don't want to be like him."

Probably a good idea. Embedded in my blogs are neuropsychological controls which can hijack the brains of the weak. Inserted one just for you yesterday to get you to write the above.

You don't want to be like me. My thoughts are so powerful they would burn out your very small number of functioning neurons.

I only have your best interests at heart.

NY Times video--http://nytimes.feedroom.com/?fr_story=42ca8ab129e9e68b54933648ad0b3afb12bc56ae

If the administration's rationale for pissing away trillions in Iraq is forming a unified national government, paying off the sheiks in Anbar guarantees that won't happen. We've turned the tribes into "welfare moms".

This video stands for all that wrong with the Republican Party today. Expediency trumps ideals and sound policy making!

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Klein. That along with your ultra sonic listening devices and night vision goggles, not mention your super hero friends Bat Man and Spider Man.

Hey tell us how there was a conspiracy to steal yours signs again, or the conspiracy to remove your brochures.

Let's see your sign violated code and were removed by municipal workers and the hotel maid threw out your brochures becuase you didn't have permission to leave that litter lying about. Ooooooh yeah, there's a conspiracy alright.
