Mitt Wins………..and now we start over.

All of the networks have projected Mitt Romney the winner of the Republican Michigan primary. Mitt put all of his eggs in the Wolverine basket. Now, the gamble paid off and the basket made it home safely.

Now the race turns to South Carolina. The chattering class immediately opines that Mitt will turn to Florida, leaving Johnny Mac and Huck to fight it out in the Palmetto state. We here at TRS think Mitt will not skip South Carolina. Michigan should provide a little bump-especially if the ten point margin is the final result. Mitt has not dropped below
third in South Carolina so he doesn’t need a huge lift to climb into first place.

Moreover, the
delegate count remains tight. Every delegate earned in South Carolina puts Mitt closer to the magic majority. It seems simple, but sometimes life is simple, and the simple fact is winning hand has a majority of pledged delegates and it doesn’t matter when or where the candidate acquires that voting delegate.

Mitt’s bounce now puts South Carolina into major play if he chooses to campaign there. The earned national media will provide the Romney campaign with focus and attention. Keeping the race close, even if its another second, works to keep anyone from developing a great deal of momentum going into Florida.

What are your thoughts on the next twist in the primary road?

Romney is going to take it all the way to the White House. Gentry will lead Florida to a victory. Great job Kochel in Michigan! GO TEAM ROMNEY!

And the race becomes all the more interesting now that we have three separate state winners.

Now a question for Mitt who predicted Detroit would return to former glory....

Does he have a plan to take back the markets lost to Toyota? I am not talking just about America since selling cars overseas is where we used to make money and now all I see are Japanese cars in Africa and Asia.

I think Detroit's buy American as a patriotic duty campaign failed to account for the rest of the world which will not patriotically buy an inferior car for a higher price. Detroit better get off the stick, tell the unions to get off their lazy rumps, and make some better cars.

If Mitt addresses those issues I will be impressed but my guess is he has no idea the rest of the world drives Toyota and neither do the workers in detroit which is a shame they don't know.

Anybody but McCain or Huckabee.

Are you kidding me anon??

Huckabee is far more conservative that Romney could ever dream of being..

A Conservative doesnt espouse pro life, pro gay rights, and pro illegal immigration positions like Romney has.. Thank you very much..do not pass go..do not collect 200 dollars..

I was rocked back in disbelief when I heard Huckabee talk about amending the Constitution to the way (he thinks) Christ/God would prefer it. And to a thunderous applause.

All you can say is that the Republican 'team' is full of disparate role players. The really funny thing about this field of Republican candidates is that their belts do not go through all of the loops in their pants. And the really comedic thing about this GOP 'crop' is that each of them manages to miss a different loop.

Huckabee is correct about stopping the practice of anchor babies. The illegals run across the border, birth their baby on the taxpayer dime and the child is automatically a citizen.

This practice needs to end. The reasons for it in the past are not valid anymore. Time to move on to the current century includes different immigration needs. Much less of it in general and NONE of it illegal.

By taking away automatic citizenship, he takes away one of the big incentives to illegally cross into our country.

He's correct on this.

Once again, the progressively liberal left winger demcrat in the room doesn't get it. Funny how "Vigilante" uses a term describing illegal justice as his moniker. Democrats have never been fans of the rule of law.

If democrats had any brains, they'd be republicans.

According to the exit polls in NH, Romney won the Republican vote over McCain, 35-34. The only reason McCain won is due to Independents or others who wish to manipulate the results. McCain won the Independent vote over McCain 40-27.

According to the exit polls in Michigan, Romney beat McCain 41-27. Independents voted for McCain 35-29 over Romney.

The people that voted for Mitt said that Mitt's being from Michigan was a big factor in their vote.

So, it strikes me that, as usual, you can ignore NH. Letting NON party voters vote for the party nominee distorts the results.

You can ignore Michigan because Mitt is a favorite son.

Mitt won't win in SC. McCain doesn't even come close to being a conservative, Fred isn't a factor due to his unwillingness to campaign, so all that is left is Huck.

Huckabee said it's "ludicrous" to think he's liberal and pointed out he favors a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, and Thompson doesn't.

"The writers strike needs to end soon," Huckabee said with mock concern about rhetoric coming from Thompson, an actor and former Tennessee senator. "He's got to come up with some good lines. And that's not one of them that's going to be credible."

Let's see - Fred voted along with McCain on a very unconservative, free speech suppressing law called McCain Feingold.

Then, he voted with McCain against the Bush tax cuts.

Huck is for the Fair Tax, which is the biggest tax cutting proposal out there, based on conservative principals, and Fred is not.

Who's the conservative?

Huckster also raised taxes, allowed illegal immigration to flourish in Arkansas, called those who disagreed with his immigration policies "bigoted" and "unchristian" has adopted every nanny-state proposal that has come down the pike; favors emissions caps as he has bought into the global warming hoax, wants to amend the constitution to make it more biblical...

Face it, Huckabee is crazy as a shithouse rat.

Its clear that with the "McCain will win on the backs of Independents" myth has been shattered by Romney in Michigan. Huckabee probably takes South Carolina and Florida which Catipults him into Super Tuesday. Romney can finance his own Super Tuesday GOTV effort and he'll probably get Nevada too.

Its a 2 man race now between Huckabee and Romney which is probably good considering that Huckabee and Romney are easily the 2 strongest candidates ... Its just too bad they dont like one another personally so we cant have a Huckabee/Romney or Romney/Huckabee ticket.

But then again, Reagan and Bush disliked one another and they got together so maybe there is hope.

Anonymous (Wednesday, January 16, 2008 1:23:00 PM CST), don't knock my moniker, Bub, when yours is 'anonymous'. (That's a stunning jaw dropper.) But, I can see why most Republicans would want to be anonymous this year.

Quite frankly, I get the feeling that the rest of the GOP field doesnt like Romney very much personally...

I mean, so far this campaign Romney's personally attacked Huckabee and McCain...

What I find absolutely facinating here is the "what if" factor that's starting to emerge..

What IF Fred Thompson hadn't been running the laziest presidential campaign in history... If he had gotten into the race BEFORE the Straw Poll..actually campaigned hard...

What IF Giuliani hadn't engaged in this stupid "national" campaign strategy and ignore every state so far until Florida...as a result..his fundraising is drying up..his momentum is ZERO..

Quite frankly, the GOP race could be quite different right now..as it stands..we could be looking at a brokered convention if things keep breaking like they do...

Well, if the rest of the GOP field doesn't like Romney that's good enough for me.

McCain wins South Carolina and Florida. Romney takes Nevada.

And McCain- who currently has something like a nine or ten point lead over Huckabee in the national polls- goes on to become the obvious nominee on Tsunami Tuesday.

Then McCain- the only Republican candidate who consistently beats Hillary in the polls- does it on Election Day.

Much as I hate that bat-shit crazy, shit heel Mark Klein, get a load of what he's posting in the NY TIMES:

"In key primary states like New Hampshire, the ballot system is so openly riddled with fraud the state doesn’t pretend the process is legitimate."

First we here in Iowa are riddled with fraud, and now New Hampshire too? Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

Saw Lincoln up on your website. You do know that he instituted the first federal income tax in American History, right? Because of a war--unlike Bush who thought it was more patriotic to issue tax cuts to the very rich.

You might want to take Lincoln off your site. I don't think he'd like being up here much. This isn't his republican party. Honestly, I don't know who you people are. You sure aren't the republican party I used to vote for.
