September 14 Meet the Press: Democrat meltdown fully evident.

Liberals are in panic, as famous liberal Clarence Page admitted today. Top shelf surrogates Chuck Schumer and Rudy Giuliani appeared with moderator Democrat Tom Brokaw. The result was a Democrat rout that will only intensify the Democrat panic. The Democrats remember 1988 and they know that the meltdown may well be irreversible.

Brokaw tossed softball after softball to Schumer, whose wild swings bespoke optic nerve hypoplasia. Schumer’s response to virtually every question was to simply intone the Democrat liturgy of “change”. Even sillier, Schumer and Brokaw, like every other Democrat except Bill Clinton, focused their time and remarks on explicit and implicit attacks on George Bush.

The problem with campaigning on one word is the need to define that word. It turns out that the “change” Obama describes is simply a return to the days of Jimmy Carter. Jimmy Carter himself campaigned on nothing more specific than change and most adult Americans remember how that worked out for us. For those too young to remember or who otherwise need reminding,
Jimmy Carter left the economy in a depression only worsted by the Great Depression itself.

Rudy then appeared. Brokaw again focused primarily on Sarah and President Bush. Rudy focused on Obama’s many deficiencies. Rudy hit Obama’s “tax plan” hard, using the capital gains tax as a prime example of Obama’s true agenda. Both times the capital gains tax was raised it cost the government revenue because the decline in taxable activity offset the higher rates. Rudy drove the point home: if increasing revenue to pay down the deficit is the objective then the Obama plan is either premised on a departure from normal and replicated historical experience or has an unstated objective of income redistribution. Brokaw fled tax policy like Dracula confronted by a crucifix.

Brokaw tried to make an issue of Republican mean spirited campaigning by citing the Washington Post (a newspaper built on mean spirited journalism and institutional bias) criticism of the McCain ad citing Obama’s passage of a bill to kindergarten children sex education.

Apparently the Post and NBC discovered that the bill was really a K-12 program (a rather obvious concession of the accuracy of the ad’s claim that it was sex ed for K as in “kindergarten” students) that Obama only voted for and didn’t sponsor. Rudy quickly then argued that if, indeed, the McCain ad was wrong it was only because Obama didn’t sponsor the bill, he only “supported” it and it didn’t pass leaving Obama without even have that accomplishment on his tissue thin resume. Since Obama voted present 130 times in only six years in the State Senate it, sex education for kindergarteners must have had some significance for Obama to have taken any traceable position on the issue.

Schumer was flat and Rudy was sharp. Given the now accelerating change in the
polls and the Electoral count we may be witnessing a meltdown very much like the Dukakis/Bentsen.

Cool.

I remember Dukakis/Bentsen.
It was a sad day to be a Republican. It was outright Rascism with the Willie Horton affair and campaign lies ("Read my lips, no new taxes").

That sunk the Dukakis ship.

I really thought we where past swiftboating, I guess not

Only a racist would filter the willie horton ad as racism. It was about Dukockis's judgement in giving weekend passes to convicted murderers so they could feel better about themselves and enjoy life a bit more, like murdering someone whilst on that weekend outing - which Willie Hortan did indeed do.

If you can't win the argument, charge racism. An old tried and true democrat tactic.

You are correct that Bush 41 lost due to his no new taxes flip flop - not lie. He showed he was weak. Weak will get you voted out.

Telling the truth is dirty politics?

What was untrue about the Willie Horton ad?

What was untrue about the Swiftboat ads?

Why should Republicans feel bad about telling the truth, especially when Democrats have no problem telling lies?

Why should Republicans allow Democrats to define what is acceptable campaigning?

I saw an Obama political advertisement claiming women only made 77 cents on the dollar.

Republicans need to attack this head on rather than dancing around the edges.

Hey Anon September 15, 2008 3:29

Just out of curiosity. Were you similarly outraged when Obama accused the Clintons of racism? When he said McCain wanted to stretch the Iraq war out for 100 years? When he misquoted McCain as saying social security is a disgrace? Or is your outrage only directed at McCain? With regard to Obamas pig/lipstick comment, what do you think all the Obamaniacs were laughing about when he made the comment? Are you so dense that you can’t figure it out?

How about a big round of applause for GW getting oil back below $100 a barell?

After all, if he was responsible for the price going up, then he is responsible for it coming down.

Maybe it was one of The Messiah's miracles. Loaves, fishes and petroleum.

Everyone's losing their jobs - can't afford gas - demand goes down - price goes down. People don't drive as much in the fall - demand goes down - price goes down. Stock market tanks and economy looks crappy - speculators think people won't drive as much - price goes down. You don't have to be fucking Einstein to figure it out.

Anonymous said...

Vlad,

The tanking economy & its accompanying decreased demand is bringing the price of oil down, so many will definitely credit W for the lower prices.

BTW, this again proves that US demand for oil greatly affects oil prices, as we are responsible for such a large percentage of worldwide demand. On the other hand, our domestic supply has minimal price implications as our reserves & production are a much smaller portion of world markets. - So once again, Obama is right and McCain is wrong.

If I could sell gas for 4.00 a gallon, I dont care if I have 2 or 10 billion barrels, Im going to sell for 4 bucks. Plain and simple, I want to make more money, there is nothing wrong with that.
And anyone who has something against that, has something against America

Anonymous said...

Anon 7:02,

Please read my comment more carefully. I clearly expressed why US demand has much greater impact on oil prices than US supply. George W. Bush's Energy Information Administration has come to the very same conclusion.

Increased US drilling (which Obama also supports) will only affect where we get our oil. Domestic v. foreign. Good reason for increasing domestic drilling. However, increased domestic production will have very little impact on prices.

I know facts are an awful thing when they get in the way of your ideology.

Anonymous said...

Hey RF,
Obama supports drilling? Only if it’s severely restricted! When has he voted for it? Another flip flop during the campaign season? Why should anyone believe he won’t just flip back if elected?

Just out of curiosity, if more oil is drilled in the US does it somehow magically not increase the global supply? Are you saying that several million barrels a day from US sources will not affect the price simply because it’s from the US?

Check your logic before you get snotty!

As for what “George Bush’s” energy department says, prove it! I’ve heard and read a lot of similar claims about “George Bush’s” energy department that don’t hold up when checked.

Anonymous said...

Anon,

Which part of "small portion of world supply" amd "large portion of world demand" do you not understand? Very much in line with basic laws of supply and demand. Please brush up on your economics before you start debating.

And yes, the US DOE, Energy Information Administration very clearly agrees with this analysis.

Boy, nobody caught my sarcasm. Of course the price is market driven. I was just sick of the liberals blaming the high prices on Bush. If it were Bush's fault, he should be getting the credit for them coming down.

On another note, Karl Rove knew a lot of the blacks from New Orleans relocated to Houston so he got his weather machine out of storage, dusted it off and created a hurricane specifically to target the black people in Houston.

Ken R said...

Vlad,

The sad part is Democrats might believe such a statement because they believe any conspiracy as long as it involves Republicans and Rove.

Yeah, sure thing Ken, that Coming from you that sees a Liberal Conspiracy around every corner. You're in the same league as the dumbasses you denigrate.

Laughable.

Ken R said...

Honestly,

I don't see liberal conspiracy theories (that assumes they have sufficient intelligence to hatch a complex plot) rather I see libs trying to steal resources instead of earning them.

Libs can't (you pick it) therefore they use the government to steal. No conspiracy there my friend.

Great RF,
So I guess that is the reason you Democrats have supported a policy of restricting American oil output and sending hundreds of billions of dollars overseas. Take an actual look at those statistics and you’ll find that the global oil shortfall at the old price was just a few million barrels a day. Expanded oil drilling in the US could easily exceed that and drive down the price of oil on the global market. But, in the interests of faux environmentalism, forcing Americans to pay more at the pump (As enthusiastically endorsed by Obama) in order to force them to get with the lefties program, and continuing to tamp down the economy so it can be an issue in the presidential campaign, Democrats are doing everything they can to keep US oil off the market.

You and your fellow Democrats have driven up the price of oil to a new equilibrium. Americans are paying more and getting less and you get to blame George Bush. Hey, it’s a leftist trifecta.

I just found out that the Bush Administration attempted to regulate Freddie and Fanny in 2003 but failed thanks to Democratic resistance. This deserves wide dissemination since Democrats are tying to pin this on President Bush and Republicans. It turns out the Bush administration recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago…Freddie Mac manipulated its accounting to mislead investors, and …Fannie Mae does not adequately hedge against rising interest rates.

----------------------------------
However, Democrats got in the way…..

''These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis…'The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.'' - (D) Barney Frank

''I don't see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing,'' - (D) Melvin Watt

The whole thing is the fault of the Bush Administration's wont for an "ownership society". Hence this subprime mortgage nonsense. These were pitched almost exclusively to blacks and the most basically ignorant members of society. To expect these boobs to understand anything relative to a contract, and to furthermore expect them to do anything other than default on a loan was foolish in the first place. Too much cheap money floating around. I mean really, expecting these welfare apes to re-pay a loan. What kind of dumbass move was that? And a thirty year mortgage when they have proven they can single handedly destroy any structure within five years..........? The whole thing just stinks.
