Our raison d'ĂȘtre here at TRS
“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.” John Stuart Mill
We at The Real Sporer believe that the crises of our generation is the preservation of a United States of America based on fundamental rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Oddly enough, our generation, that grew in the quiet and secure 50s, 60s and 70s and thought we could escape history now find ourselves at the cross roads of history. At a time when the prevailing media, academic and even now industrial elites find the easy road of paternalistic socialist totalitarianism more expedient to travel we are convinced that only preserving the more traditional America will better provide the well known blessings of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to us and our posterity.
In the real world, the Republican freedom agenda is the only alternative to the thought police and rations commissar of the socialist nanny state. But the agenda that we share with the founding generation, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, will never again prevail if we don't fight our generation's battle to renew America's commitment to freedom with our socialist adversaries.
Our mission statement is therefore clear: provide the information and argument that leads to a Republican Renaissance and Republican governance.

Ron Paul? Are you serious??? That should make the evening interesting if nothing else.
All of those candidates have pulled at least 1% in every major poll.. so it's a good list.
However, I still think that SCC should tell Rudy and McCain that if they don't think highly enough of Iowa Republicans to come to the Straw Poll...then don't come back to Iowa at all..
I think its premature to put McCain on that list if 1% polling support is the threshold to put a candidate's name on the straw poll ballot. Give him time, he's spiraling into single digits and may hit 1% or below sooner than you think. Immigration amnesty is bad, but hating Iowa and our first in the nation status does not bode well for any candidate. He screwed Iowa in 2000 and he's doing it yet again. At least he's consistent I guess.

I agree with you VERY MUCH SO!!!
However, I believe that the ballot put forth by the SCC will allow IOWA REPUBLICANS to tell them that themselves.
I'd encourage ALL Republicans in Iowa to attend the Straw Poll! If you are affiliated with another candidate - GREAT!! If you were or are allied with Giuliani and McCain I would ask that you consider what their actions say about your support of their candidacy. Come and vote as you feel.
Those Iowa Republicans who were not planning on attending the Straw Poll, I would ask that you consider traveling to Ames on Saturday, August 11th. Your $35.00 ticket will indeed be a donation to your state party to aid in getting the work done for the next 4 or 8 years. In addition, you will have the opportunity to vote for your choice, hear him speak if you choose to, enjoy some great food and entertainment and in genral have a fine time.
However, I have one request. Please do not bring Jim Nussle with you.
Well.. I think Jim Ross Nussle blew any goodwill he had left with Republican activists after choosing to side more with Rudy..than with Iowa Republicans who busted their tails for his terribly run campaign...
you can't be the front runner if you concede defeat on the first ballot, which both rudy and mccain did. they know they can't win in iowa. if you can't win in iowa, how can you call yourself the front runner?
I think this works out quite well for the presidential race. Iowa is supposed to winnow down the field. We are supposed to sort them all out. That is why the caucus format is so good for america. They actually have to talk to real people. Iowa people as opposed to people from NEW YORK CITY!
We sorted out McCain and we've sorted out Rudy. It opens the door wide open for Fred and Newt and who knows who else? It's far from over and it allows the second tier to be heard and reconsidered.
The straw poll did what it is supposed to do. Iowa needs to remain first in the nation for just this purpose.
You can't blow your smoke past us good, heartland style, honest americans, who live in Iowa.
We've smoked out McCain twice now, and Rudy couldn't make any traction at all.
