A major recruit-Brandenburg for Senate!

The Republican Senate Leadership earns major plaudits this week for recruiting a top flight candidate to square off against the Democrat Majority Leader Mike “Bully” Gronstal.

Gronstal represents Council Bluffs, as typical of a decent Iowa community as one finds in the state. None the less, Gronstal personally, and the Senate Democrats, under his leadership collectively, are so liberal that their aggressive support of homosexual marriage barely surprises, much less shocks, the body politic. You name a liberal issue and you cannot get left of Mike Gronstal. Now that is a problem for a common sense Iowa community like Council Bluffs.

Problem solved, vote for Mark Brandenburg.

Mark has a very impressive resume` that includes both broad civic involvement and electoral success. Brandenburg is an adjunct professor at Iowa Western Community College, evidence of both knowledge and ability to impart that knowledge. Brandenburg was previously with Omaha Public Power District where he finished his career with the company in the Human Resources division, evidence of some knowledge of bureaucracy and the impact of legislative action on real business. Prior to his move into the division of Human Resources, Brandenburg was in the Engineering and the Assistant Planning divisions of the company and member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW Local 1483), e.g. knows real working conditions and the people who occupy them.

Brandenburg has been a community leader involved in many projects and initiatives including being elected twice to the Council Bluffs Public School Board providing a history of electoral success. Brandenburg also serves on the board of the Union Pacific Railroad Museum, Iowa Western Community College Alumni Association, SPARCS (Special People Active and Retired Caring and Sharing service organization), and the Omaha Public Power District Federal Credit Union. Brandenburg is active in and a Life Member of the National Rifle Association and a member of Pheasants Forever. What’d I tell you, a great resume`.

“I grew up on the west end of Council Bluffs where my parents still reside; Council Bluffs is my home, and I deeply care about what direction and path we go down as a community. I know the deep-seeded values of this community; family, hard work, entrepreneurial spirit, faith and helping your neighbor.”

“As a State Senator I will work hard to make Iowa a place that the next generation of Iowans can receive a top-notch education and then get a job that keeps them here in Iowa to raise their family. In order to accomplish this priority, we need to take a thoughtful and conservative perspective to the Capitol and propose personal and small business tax relief, fix our growing property tax problem, curb government spending, and promote excellence and accountability in education.”

“I understand that running against the powerful Senate Majority Leader will be a difficult task, but I will doggedly point out the recent Gronstal record of runaway government spending, higher taxes, the refusal to debate the Marriage Amendment, and the unprecedented effort to gut Iowa’s sixty year old “Right-to-Work” law which could have devastating impact on Iowa’s ability to attract new jobs and businesses. Senator Gronstal has been at the state capitol for twenty-five years and has become a professional politician owned by the Des Moines special interest groups in what is supposed to be a citizen-legislature. It is time for a fresh face, new ideas, and responsible approaches to make our legislature work for the citizens of Council Bluffs and not the Des Moines special interest groups.”

Mark Brandenburg’s candidacy is welcome news for the four corners of the Iowa GOP effort.
