Erik Helland: On the air with some hard hitting commercials.

Erik Helland, one of the two Republican primary candidates up in HD 69 . Erik’s opponent is Al Lorenzen.

Erik has just opened a new television and radio campaign. Check it out, very hard hitting but our fact checkers have looked at it and the contents appear to be true and in context.

Primary Season. No, Open Season. Wow.

I'm starting to see a pattern...lots of brand new republicans are running. He's not the first one to have been democrat a few months ago and now runs for office as a republican? Hmm..me thinks some trouble afoot.

Teddy - Can you disable the zoo video below so that it doesn't automatically play? Makes for seeing the Helland video easier.

The ad by Helland is a lying, dirtbag, low-blow. I am sending money to Lorenzen immediately. To say that Al Lorenzen is supported by liberal Democrats...? Come on. Erik Helland must be dumber than he looks if he believes that. I hope Al wins...if he doesn't, sign me up for whatever Democrat is running against Erik.

If Deace is supporting Helland - I'll vote for Al (or whatever Dem runs against Helland should he win the primary). If the Jesus freaks take over the primary it will be a landslide loss on all levels in November.

Helland is a shoe in for his Seat..What is happening? This is just shameful!!! Does anyone remember Reagans 11th? Helland is losing my vote.

Great ad! Lorenzen represents everything that is wrong with the Republicans and Helland is calling him on it.

If someone had done this to McCain, maybe you wouldn't be in the mess you are in.

Don't talk smack about McCain around Helland: he was on McCain's caucus staff. Helland's endorsement by ITR is no crowning achievement. Those guys like to own the candidates they give money and time to and they are as fake as the day is long. My vote goes to Al...

Lorenzen goes to Hope Lutheran church in West Des Moines. Lorenzen is a solid christian. I have been in the same room as Helland, he is not a christian. What I know of Helland is he is a foul mouth pot smoking moron. He is only pro-life because most republicans are pro-life. AL Lorenzen has a deep profound commitment to life. Eric has gay friends and would be weak on the marriage issues. Al Lorenzen has been a longtime stable family man and is a strong evangelical-- He will not support gay marriage.

Eric Helland has and will support pro-choice Republicans (George Patacki)!!!

Does anyone know what kind of a automobiles these two principally drive? I bet that Helland creep drives a Toyota and I see Lorezema in a nice Chevrolet.

That stands for "What Would Jesus Drive?" I tell you what he wouldn't drive! He wouldn't shit down the necks of his American Christian brothers by driving no damn Toyota built by shinto loving little yellow monkeys! He'd be in a Ford or Chevy truck with an American flag sticker ON THE RIGHT of the rear window and a "Support the Troops" ribbon magnet on the tail gate.

Come on! Let's bring this debate down to something we all can understand and relate to.

I hope Anon 2:00 is being sarcastic.

Anonymous said...

RF, what kind of a car do you drive?

Anonymous said...

Ford. - Is the R behavior police pleased?

Anonymous said...

Um...Toyotas are built in the U.S.

Derrrrr...you're smart.

Can someone explain why AFSCME is supporting Al??????? How does he feel about eminent domain? Does he hold the same position as his predecessor fake republican?

How does he feel about the new sales tax? How does he feel about corporate welfare? How does he feel about Chet's $100 million dollar energy slush fund? How does he feel about right to work if AFSCME is supporting him? How does he feel about the bottle bill scam? How does he feel about all that taxpayer waste we keep reading about? How does he feel about Chet's budget? How does he feel about the marriage amendment? How does he feel about voter id and requiring it?

Who gives a rats ass about what church he freakin goes to. I want to know what he's going to do specifically in the next session.

Lorenzen goes to Hope Lutheran church in West Des Moines. Lorenzen is a solid christian.

I went to Tires Plus last night. I'm a solid mechanic.

What I know of Helland is he is a foul mouth pot smoking moron.

Rrrriiiiiiiiightttt.

He is only pro-life because most republicans are pro-life. AL Lorenzen has a deep profound commitment to life.

Is that why Lorenzen is endorsed by the goonions? If, as you claim, Helland is only pro life because most republicans are pro life, in order to rise through the ranks, he will have to amass a pro-life voting record so what is the problem?

Eric has gay friends and would be weak on the marriage issues.

And you unctious religios wonder why you get made fun of and laughed at. I have gay friends too. That does not mean that I want them to get married. Your friends are probably uber-Christian assholes so you would be weak on douchebaggery.

Maybe you can explain this. How can gays denigrate the "sanctity" of marriage any more than it already is?

Al Lorenzen has been a longtime stable family man and is a strong evangelical-- He will not support gay marriage.

And how is that going to lower my taxes?

Like the poster above says, I really don't give a rats ass what church he goes to. Helland could sacrifice small furry animals to Satan on the capital grounds and I wouldn't care so long as he could solve budget problems, lift the smoking ban, lower taxes, protect eminent domain and yank social services from illegals.

The only thing that makes Helland suspect is his support of McCain.

By the way, I'm not a Republican. I just enjoy pissing off the self-righteous.

Anonymous said...

Doesn't the association of business and industry prez support Lorenzen? I think that would kill the argument about right to work.

Anonymous said...

Yes, Al has been endorsed by the Iowa Association of Business and Industry...oh yeah, real liberal. Helland and ITR are just up to the same old tired political tricks that they (ITR) have used for years to control the Iowa legislature. Lorenzen has backbone and is a real conservative who will not be owned by a few folks in Muscatine.

Art A Layman said...

Let us tread lightly on the disparagement of marriage. There are those, who shall remain nameless, who make a good living on the "unsanctity" of marriage.

Perhaps once the realization sinks in that gay marriage will increase the number of marriages and logically that should lead to increased divorces, political ideology may take a backseat.

Anon 11:05 - Are you saying Al likes to take it in the AFSCME?

Anonymous said...

No, Anon 11:36, Al likes to Knapp with Walt's fine AFSCME...friends

Anonymous said...

I was an Al supporter too until I found out he was a jock. So, I am no longer a jock supporter like Walt Tomenga.

Anonymous said...

Really anon 11:43? I'm currently a jock supporter and after hearing how gay Al is I'm not sure how to "Cope" with it...

Anonymous said...

Wow. Nice discourse. No wonder we lose elections.

Anonymous said...

hey 12:09, i see nothing wrong with beating up on democrats like lorenzen.

Any observer of conservative dialogue will have to look long and hard to find meaningful discourse.

Anonymous said...

oh yeah, well "art a layman" should be "art a gayman".

Take that!

Anonymous said...

Art,

I agree at times it's difficult, but some of us actually look beyond the rhetoric and care about issues. Lorenzen is an excellent candidate who is active in his community. Helland has been too busy working for Pataki and McCain to get involved in the district he wants to represent. I think Lorenzen is a better fit for our district as he has a common sense approach and really listens to folks...and he won't be controlled by ITR. You can be for tax relief without being beholden to a special interest group.

anon 12:45:

Now dammit, the closet door is still closed. How did you find out?

Art A Layman said...

anon 12:52:

I do appreciate that there are many well-meaning, concerned conservatives much more interested in the general welfare, seemingly like yourself. It's just that all over the net it seems conservatives love to exclaim their various disagreements through foul language and name calling.

I'm not saying that we Dems don't practice the same. It just seems more a conservative phenomenon.

Be careful what you wish for. Jesus was a semite and we might get shocked by his loyalties.

Either way he probably would drive a Mercedes diesel. Some chance it would be a chariot with truly 300 horsepower.
