Erik Helland wins the second blowout on the Polk County slate tonight. Erik surged past Al Lorenzen by a whopping 73-27%, the second 46 point blowout of the night.
Al has come to the Party late but also brings some hellish assets to the GOP. I hope Al will find other ways to help the GOP, particularly given the importance of holding 69.
Erik is a campaigning monster. He’s knocked on almost every door in the District already-and he’s doing that while attending law school. Erik is highly endorsed by ITR, IRLC and, I believe IFPC, and we now know he can turn out the base.
Erik’s work in our county demonstrates that he is one guy who can go out and recruit new Republicans because he takes the time to talk to the voters. Keep it up Erik and we will have a massive turnout in HD 69 in November.

Chairman,
did sara bowman win Congressional District 3!?
Helland will go down in the hall of shame. GOing negative when not needed. I see no need to vote helland in the fall.
Making note of your opponent's recent switch of parties and who their support base and funding sources are hardly going negative. Since the press wasn't going to put out that information, I am glad Erik did. There was an overall lack of interest by DM Register (except the one paltry article) about this race in comparison the 2nd Cong. race over in Cedar Rapids.
Go Erik! It's your birthday! Go Erik!
Yay - content of character won over past celebrity status.
The ITR owns Helland and as long as he continues to kiss Ed's ass then all will be well. The most ironic thing about this is that he went on and on about Lorenzen not being a real Republican when many Republicans feel the same way about John McCain...and Helland worked on his staff. So, is Helland soft on immigration, pro campaign finance reform (bye bye ITR money) and ready to cozy up with Gronstal the way McCain does with Feingold, Kennedy, et al.?
Helland may be a fiscal conservative, but he is also a social liberal. I am telling you all it is a matter of time before the stories of Helland and his pot-smoking days come out! He does not go to church and I have been in the room where he made fun of Kim Lehman and IRLC. This guy is no different than Walt Tomenga. Pretty soon he will be voing for tax increases righ next to the democrats.
We D's need a candidate in HD 69! With a nice Obama surge, we could capture this one.
10:26am is right on! We will never learn: I am ready to switch parties; at least the Dems are up front about being liberal. We just keep on electing fakes.
RF... You have a candidate his name is Eric Helland this guy is liberal, probably more liberal than you! Hell you democrats have almost completely taken over the Republican party you even got our presidential nominee.
gee, i wonder if 11:07 and 11:11 are the same people.
dude. get over it.
helland is not a pot smoking liberal. he doesn't wear birkenstocks. he doesn't drive a vw van.
he kicks ass and takes names. and he smoked your boy al last night so go cry about it elsewhere.
So slime beats out scum by the slimmest of margins.........
We nominate Liberal John "Aid and Comfort to the Enemy" McCain for the Presidency......
And who are the real winners here again?
Basically, what we learned from this race is: Democrats stay out! The Republican Party doesn't want or need you! Gov Ray reached out to Lorenzen and invited him into our Big? tent...you remember, the one Reagan believed in, and Helland and his ITR cronies said: Keep Out! True Believers Only.
Way to invite people in and change the status quo.
Tell us more about how Ray converted Al. What were his convincing points? What issues made Al want to be an R rather than a D?
Please tell us more. What were the issues that Al came to believe in that better represented him than those in the D party?
What are the BIG TENT differences you think ITR has with Ray? Ray said "come in" and ITR said "stay out".
Tell us what you think that issue difference is? What is it that Al believes in that ITR does not believe in?
Then, please explain how AFSCME and Knapp play into that. What did they believe and Al could do for them that Erik wouldn't do?
Please - be specific. Educate us idiots who don't get your point.
Wow. Hit a nerve. Must've been up partyin late into the night with all of your super conservative tradional Republicans. Spare me.
I do believe al changed much like romney with a "focal" point of faith changing his path. A person well connected in business could get almost any bodies support. didn't newt recently say that republicans should "educate" unions with the facts.
You're right, 9:30, but most R's in Iowa don't want to be agents of change or educate anyone. The powers that be...and have been for sooooo long....are tired and run the same type of ads for their "chosen" candisates across the state. They win because the fear tactics work and people don't vote. Let's face it, we had more folks engaged in school board elections in my district than the primary. Pretty pathetic.
He does not go to church and I have been in the room where he made fun of Kim Lehman and IRLC.
Your point being?
6:14 concedes. He had no point. Evidence that he is a mod. he belives in nothing so can't make a point.
Jock sniffing isn't all that satisfying is it, 6:14?
Mod=McCain=Helland.
My point being, if you do not have a foundation then it is just a house of cards waiting to fall Helland may get elected and may be good for a year or two then he will be a liberal!
So only a candidate who attends church is a conservative? I don't attend church and I am willing to bet that I am far more conservative than you.
