Heroic Dawn Pettengill appears in Polk for Larry Disney

Most of our readers are aware of Dawn Pettengill’s (HD 39-Benton County) jump from Democrat to Republican back in 2007, but most were not aware of the extent of the bullying she endured from the Democrat leadership, chief among them Larry Disney’s opponent for HD67, Kevin “Bully” McCarthy. Having heard Dawn’s story the source of the nickname becomes palpably obvious.

In an effort to force Dawn to repeal or functionally nullify Iowa’s Right to Work laws, Democrat leadership engaged in every form of intimidation, personal attack and threat. This includes everything from physical intimidation under the Capitol Dome, to threats against her pet to employing electronic calling functions to engage in what plainly is criminal telephone harassment.

The reason, of course, was the urgent need for Dawn’s vote to implement compulsory union contributions as a predicate to employment. The reason for such a vote was the need for the Democrats’ to deliver this major step toward collectivism to their union “partners” as the payoff for all of the money labor delivers to the Democrats.

Worst of all, to punish Dawn for her vote, the Democrat House leadership voted to underfund the Iowa School for the Blind. A political party that hurts blind children isn’t really about the children at all.

We certainly hope to bring Dawn back to Polk County for more events. The more people hear her story the more repulsed they will become with the thuggish mentality that remains at the heart of organized labor and the Democrats they control. Larry Disney hopes to diminish that number by one-the Bully himself.

Congratulations Larry - Great to see our Polk County Republicans engaged in the battle.

Dawn Pettingill was the very last democrat with any kind of integrity about representing her constituency rather than the UNION thugs that thugged her.

Welcome to the R party Dawn. We are glad you saw the light.

And speaking of Polk County Republicans - Dave Price at WHO wants to know where Kim Schmett is.

Here's his item on it from his blog. Isn't his wife, Connie the Con running his campaign? They both used to work for Branstad which is why they are qualified for Congress. That's all you need. (not)

"Boz is back...Where is Schmett?

3rd District Congressman Leonard Boswell put together a little thank you for the thank yous he received during his latest hospital stint.

To borrow a phrase from one of the producers in our news room..."he was still in the hospital?"

Boswell spent two weeks in the D.C. hospital for what, we don't know. His office has never given specifics.

Of course, Boswell never gave specifics about that 20 pound mass doctors removed several years ago. But voters re-elected him without that knowledge.

Where has Boswell's Republican challenger been all this time? Other than his official announcement, has Kim Schmett held any type of event?

I sure don't remember any. It's interesting that Republicans complain constantly that Boswell has never accomplished much in Congress, yet they can't seem to beat him.

Is Schmett saving his firepower for later on when strategists would argue voters are paying more attention? Does that work for a guy, who as far as I know, isn't well-known in the district?

Perhaps, he's working on his debate skills."

Dawn Pettengill is an awesome addition to our party.

I'm sure the House Democrats are really out to get her this year since she switched parties on them, we should also be willing to get out there and work for her along with the Dis.

We need to show the Democrats that they can't pick on our Representatives.

Dawn Pettengill appeared at a fund rasier I attended last spring and I heard her story first hand.

pretty amazing - I would encourage anyone capable of doing so to make even a small contribution to her campaign.

There is no better republican than a new republican.

Frank Chiodo used to get a lot of opposition from other Democrats for voting contrary to the party on way too many issues.

Democrats do not tolerate dissent. For members who do not toe the line it can get ugly when they get into the elevator if Republicans were not on board. Democrats truly eat their own.

Yes, Dawn is one gutsy lady. The Republican party is fortunate to have her.

Democrats are notorious for bullying. Ironic, isn't it that it is Democrats who seem so concerned about bullying that they want to pass legislation against it in schools.

What a bunch of hypocrites. They love to tell others how to live but don't want to live by their own rules.

I have to add Delores Mertz to the short list of Democrats who represent their constituency. I think she get frustrated with leadership, too.

I don't remember R's treating Walt Tomenga too well either. Or the White House and congressional R leadership bullying their own when pushing through their Medicare gift-to-big-pharma drug bill.

I don't think either side has much to brag about how they treat their own dissidents.

She was too ugly to be a Democrat anyway.

"She was too ugly to be a Democrat anyway."

yeah... I wouldn't go there...

Yes the democrats have the union bullies, the republicans have the Tax Relief bullies. They sit up in the gallery(all 4 of them) and do the gestures to intimadate the R's. Then there is TS,Sheffler,Lehman, and Norm P. Its just that the R bullies will find themselves exposed to the general public closer to the election. As you all know only the evangelicals and real party popahs
have a remote idea of the strong arm tatics they use. Most R's haven't even heard of the ICA. Alot of ministers say "who". But the word is traveling fast.

RF--You have no clue what you're talking about.

Walt Tomenga was never bullied.

Maybe you should try thinking for yourself instead of just spreading the Democrats talking points.

Lundy was quite a hottie!!!!!

heh. anyone at the statehouse knows how Tomenga and Dave Mulder were treated by Rs. But Gronstal and his crew take the cake. Only Jack Kibbie doesn't bully and it's just because he's too stupid to be able to do so.

Anon 10:08,

I did not say Tomenga was bullied. Please read what people actually write before you respond. What I referred to has been widely publicized and discussed even on R blogs.

I don't recall Rep. Tomenga being "mistreated".

I am from the town were dawn lives. Before she was a Representative, Dawn took care of our community. She even began a city council like setting for our your youth called the Mount Auburn Youth Council (MAYC). This is available to kids between the ages of 11-18, and gives them the idea of what it is like to be on the city council. The kids and Dawn even started to rebuild the park in town. When Mr. McCarthy did hat stuff to Dawn, she was devistated. I know that before she made the final decision, she told me that she didn't want to switch. She was worried that the voters would feel betrayed. Dawn is great for District 39, and I hope that you choose to vote for her, no matter WHAT party you belong to. I love you, Dawn! -mm
