Sarah Palin -- P.U.M.A. Pachyderm style.

Who agrees that the water cooler/across the fence chat is usually the best barometer of political events. We activists and junkies are very well informed by the trees but often cannot see the forest. Iowa Republicans have been particularly myopic in recent years. Today, we took a big national step toward the political canopy.

On at least Day One, Sen. McCain’s selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is a homerun. Everyone with whom we have spoken has been, at worst, relieved and, at best, ecstatic. Gov. Palin brings a huge upside, one of the rare Vice Presidential candidates who can. Several people we encountered who are largely non political voiced their enthusiastic commentary about Gov. Palin. That is a great sign.

Gov. Palin is safe-she is a clear small government social conservative. Her conservatism clearly reassures our conservative base as to the ideological direction of the party. At the same time, Gov. Palin is a true working mom who provides clear and convincing evidence that there is no glass ceiling in the Republican Party. We here at TRS have long argued that disproving the canard that pro-life conservatives are politically misogynistic should be at the forefront of the Republican agenda.

Gov. Palin also provides a voice for all working women, a group with whom Republicans have not always fared well on Election Day. Moderate women, particularly in suburban areas, who traditionally end up voting Democrat, will be impressed by the choice, particularly if Gov. Palin sticks to the themes she follows in the following video.

P-U-M-A "Palin Unmistakably More Agreeable."

Sporer,

What is the ONE qualification that gave Palin the nod? - Welcome to the world of 100% bare-naked identity politics! You must be so proud. You have your own Geraldine Ferraro.

Still, identity politics often works. Take it from a D. You could be right, this may turn out to be a brilliant move by McCain. But I'm liking our odds. In a funny way McCain made everyone happy. You R's seem genuinely happy and pleased. I've seen lots of grinning and laughter by D's due to this turn of events.

McCain raised $3 million today.

Great pick. I may even vote for the guy now.

Vlad,

So she hunts, fishes and is against abortion. That's all you need in a president? Or maybe you could elaborate on your affection for this pick.

It's obvious she was picked for her sex and her opinions. Not her accomplishments, just her opinions. By this measure, many, many people are qualified to be a heartbeat from the Oval Office.

I noticed one good thing: McCain pointed out that both Sara and her husband are union members. I didn't know Republicans thought so highly of unions. Maybe they will both march in a union parade on Monday.

I see McCain has had only one conversation with Palin in his life. He must be a quick judge of character.

she has a proven record of "change" in local and state politics at an executive level.

what are obama's qualifications on that level or higher?

Anonymous said...

rf,

She is legitimately for smaller government, is willing to eradicate corruption and take on liberals within her own party, has taken on the RATS, favors drilling, likes hockey and does not have a history of stabbing conservatives in the back. In other words, she is everything McCain isn't.

The only problem with her as a pick is that she reminds me why I detest McCain.

Joe Biden has hair plugs. That is vain and feminine. He's emotional like a girl. He's wrong all the time on foreign policy - remember when he wanted to partition Iraq?

Joe Biden has hair plugs. Why did he do that? To look more sexy when he offered his opinions?

THe only reason Obama took Joe Biden is he was the best looking choice, not for his experience.

I can't wait to go through Bidens long list of gaffes and wrong opinions.

What is Biden's experience? Just giving opinions - and being vain.

Remember when Joe Biden was so bereft of an opinion that he had to plaigerize someone else's opinion?

Wow - Joe and Oby - two empty suits.

They sure look sexy though.

rf - could you please elaborate on what the ONE qualification THE ONE has to be president?

Working for ACORN - the organization that is constantly convicted of voter fraud?

Is his being adept at voter fraud the ONE reason you guys nominated him?

Anonymous said...

rf - you make us smile when you accuse us of identity politics. Republicans don't do that. We don't have identity quotas to become delegates like you guys do. We focus on the content of the character while you focus on the color of the check box (who got the chinese-samoan-white-black-mexican spot?)

We know that republicans love Sarah because of her content. We know democrat women will vote for her because she's a woman.

Democrats don't care about content of the character.

We don't do identity politics.

RE: Obama's qualifications. If you are not familiar with his resume, which includes teaching constitutional law (boy do we need that after W), you are quite sad. Come to think of it, his resume is very similar to Abraham Lincoln's. And it seems most people think Abe did ok.

Of course, this also highlights the huge downside of the Palin pick. How can McCain now go after Obama on his experience with any serious credibility? After all, that is the one strong argument McCain has had going for him, no question about it.

Anonymous said...

Obama lived in Illinois and so did Abe Lincoln. Both were lawyers.

After that, I can't think of any similarities at all.

W. Sherman said...

McCain can still go after Obama for his lack of experience. Governor Palin has more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined. Palin has been running a state for the past two years; Obama has been making speeches. Palin brought about ethical reform in Alaska State Government; Obama runs around the country talking about change (and talking about hoping for change). I agree with TRS: McCain hit a home run with this choice.

Anonymous said...

Obama spent a few years in the state legislature and a few years in Washington. Same as Lincoln. Both opposed the foreign war of their time (Mexican War, for Abe).

We'll never hear another word from McCain about Obama's lack of experience. He never meant it, obviously. He never means anything he says. It's all calculated to advance his own career.

If he was serious about experience being a necessary quality, he (now 72 years old) would never pick Palin. She has no experience thinking about foreign policy, war, terrorism, Pakistan, nuclear proliferation, military spending, Constitutional precedents, or any of the big questions.

Executive experience is no panacea. It's not a question of executive experience versus other experience. It matters whether the experience--legislative, executive, administrative, bureaucratic, whatever---was about local issues or international issues.

Clearly McCain doesn't give a damn. As long as he can win a few Hillary voters. He didn't put the country first this time, now did he?

The republican party was born with the sole goal to eliminate slavery. The party was born in Iowa. Abe Lincoln, did in fact, free the slaves.

Obama, by contrast wishes to enslave americans freedoms by overtaxing them, overregulating them and forcing what they desire for behavior (no smoking) on others.

Obama is more dictator than freedom lover.

There is not a whit of comparision to Lincoln other than living in illinois and being a senator.

Republicans hate war too. Republicans are against war - unless war is necessary.

As the bible says - there is a time for peace, a time for war.

We go to war to fight evil - like in the civil war.

Democats never fight evil. They don't even know that evil exists. ALl behavior is relative to the situation so all is ok. Everything is simply a lifestyle choice, not right or wrong.

We can't have you running the country. Its just too serious a job for people who have such a lack of wisdom to understand why.

Obama must have been gone the day they talked about how there isn't a right to marry in the constitution or the day they talked about the fact there isn't a right to privacy in the constituion either. He seems to think both of those are in there. Grade F.

How does he feel about Sandra Day O'Connor's decision in the University of Michigan admissions case where she stated that race can't be taken into consideration for admissions much longer. That affirmative action is a race based law preference law, like Jim Crowe) and has to go away in about 25 years from that decision.

"We expect that 25 years from now, the use of racial preferences will no longer be necessary to further the interest approved today." Sandra Day O'Connor.

How does he feel about that?

Does he plan to appoint constitutionalist judges then? Does he respect the constitution or does he believe like Ginsburg that it's a living document that should be changed as needed, and also look to Europe (which has no constitution) for guidance.

If he's like Lincoln, he'll pick constitutionlists.

I doubt he will do that based on his answers at Saddleback.

So - stop giving us the phony constitutional lawyer thing.

It sounds like John Kerry trying to pass himself off as a commander in chief "reporting for duty" because he happened to serve in the army for a short period of time. We knew he hated the military and would suck. What a phony soldier he was.

Now you try to pass off boo hoo as a constitutional lawyer.

It's stunning how many cases come up. It's like that is the only organizing they do. They organize dead people and exploit indians on reservations.

It's a notorious criminal enterprise and that's the experience Obama has and wants us to think is an important indicator of his potential as President. Unfortunately for him, it does.

I'll take Sarah Palins experience over that, thank you.

ACORN Workers Indicted For Alleged Voter Fraud

UPDATED: 10:25 pm CST November 1, 2006

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Four people have been indicted on charges of voter fraud in Kansas City, officials said Wednesday.

Investigators said questionable registration forms for new voters were collected by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, a group that works to improve minority and low-income communities.

The four indicted -- Kwaim A. Stenson, Dale D. Franklin, Stephanie L. Davis and Brian Gardner -- were employed by ACORN as registration recruiters. They were each charged with two counts.

Federal indictments allege the four turned in false voter registration applications. Prosecutors said the indictments are part of a national investigation.

ACORN and Project Vote recruit and assign workers to low-income and minority neighborhoods to register people to vote.

The Kansas City Election Board told KMBC they found suspicious forms, such as seven applications from one person and an application for a dead man.

"There is some motive behind it -- this is not accidental," said Ray James with the Kansas City Election Board.

Election officials said some of the application cards had false addresses, signatures and phone numbers.

Guess which political party against whom we went to war over slavery?

Yes, boys and girls - the Democrat party.

Lincoln went to literal war with the democrats over the evil of slavery.

The Jim Crow south was all democrats. Republicans were in the minority but opposed Jim Crow laws which are RACE BASED Preference laws. Republicans have always been against identity politics which includes RACE BASED PREFERENCE laws.

How does Obama feel about the shameful racist, slave lovin history of his democRAT party?

Anonymous said...

Republicans believe at their core that all men are created equal.

It's what drove them to rid the nation of slavery - republicans passed the 13th amendment to the constitution. Democrats opposed it.

It's what drove them to pass the 17th amendment giving women the right to vote. Democrats opposed it.

It's what drove them to pass the Civil Rights amendment of 1964. It took republican leadership to get it passed. The democrat south opposed it vigorously, including Al Gore Sr. who fillibustered it.

It's what drove Republican President Dwight Eisenhower, a real war hero - to desegrate the schools by sending in the national guard to Little Rock Ark to allow black children to attend school. The democrat party and the democrat gov opposed desegregation of schools with huge vigor.

It's what drives republicans to believe that the 14th amendment applies to all life - including the unborn.

The democrat past is where the near fatal wound that was the evil of slavery occured. It is where the scab continues to be scratched.

As recently as Bill Clinton in South Carolina, it continues to be the home of racism and racial division.

I never understand why blacks are democrats. why do they associate with the legacy children of their historic slave owners?

Another voter fraud investigation for ACORN

Patrick Casey

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports today that the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections (Cleveland, Ohio) is investigating 75,000 voter registrations -- many found to have been fraudulent -- submitted by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN):

Board employees said ACORN workers often handed in the same name on a number of voter registration cards, but showing that person living at different addresses. Other times, cards had the same name listed, but a different date of birth. Still another sign of possible fraud showed a number of people living at an address that turned out to be a restaurant.

"I'm obviously very concerned," Board Chairman Jeff Hastings said. "This goes to the essence of our democracy."

ACORN had a part-time staff of 30 who worked five days a week to find unregistered people. The workers made $8 an hour and were required to sign up 20 voters in each five-hour shift.

The elections board's registration department said in a report that ACORN's quota contributed to the possible fraud.

Democrats have been systematically attempting to rig elections for years. Along the way they have:

-given blanket voting rights to convicted felons

-pushed same day voter registration with no ID required

-pushed for increased absentee ballotting

-resisted all efforts to enforce one vote one man by being aggressively against photo ids

Why????? Only one reason. They don't want one vote one man. They want to win at any and all costs. The end justifies the means.

Republicans need to quit going along with these laws passed under the false guise of voter partipation. It's really about voter fraud. We need to get control of our elections again.

What is ACORN up to in Iowa? How much voter fraud is going on in Iowa by these guys?

Obama disguising ties to radical leftist group?

Organization convicted of voter fraud, pushes 'authoritarian socialist' agenda

JAFFA, Israel; Did Sen. Barack Obama's campaign attempt to hide a paid working relationship with a radical leftist organization that has admitted to major financial improprieties and has been convicted in numerous major voter fraud scandals?

That question is being openly asked by the Republican National Committee after it was disclosed Obama's campaign paid more than $800,000 in services to Citizen Services Inc. (CSI), a nonprofit organization that is an offshoot of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN.

ACORN is the nation's largest community organization of low- and moderate-income families.

It has held violent, disruptive protests, seeks to regulate banks, supports left-leaning education policies, is accused of working on urging partisan voter turnout for elections, and seems to promote driving businesses from cities.

CSI is headquartered in New Orleans in the same building as ACORN. The three directors of CSI are also top leaders of ACORN. The two groups have close financial ties.

The Obama campaign's payments to CSI first reported by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review raise questions about the nature of Obama's current relationship with ACORN. Obama has been closely linked with the radical group and may have even helped drive large amount of money to the organization.

According to FEC records reviewed by the Tribune-Review, the Obama campaign paid CSI $832,598.29, from Feb. 25 to May 17.

That payment immediately stood out after a pro-Hillary Clinton blogger contacted CSI Director Sunday Alabi, who also serves as an ACORN leader. Alabi said CSI doesn't perform stage, lighting or sound services.

Also unusual was payment to CSI of $63,000 and $75,000 for advance work. Excluding the large payments to CSI, the average amount the Obama campaign spent on advance work paid to other organizations was $558.82.

The Obama campaign on Friday announced it was amending its FEC filings to indicate it hired CSI for "get out the vote" projects instead of stage, lighting and sound.

But the Obama campaign did not address the larger issues of the presidential candidate's ties to ACORN and why Obama would hire for a "get out the vote" drive a reported subsidiary of an organization whose leadership was convicted in multiple voter fraud cases.

Last July, ACORN settled what was described by the Washington Secretary of State as the "largest case of voter fraud in the state's history." Government prosecutors had filed felony charges against seven ACORN workers, who ended up receiving jail time.

Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Hobbs said in the case the workers had admitted filling out registration forms with names they found in phone books. The ACORN canvassers filled out the forms while sitting around a table at the downtown Seattle Public Library, Hobbs said.

ACORN was also investigated in 2006 for submitting false voter registrations in St. Louis. Nearly 1,500 fraudulent voter registrations were identified in the case, which was tied to at least one campaign, that of Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo. Four ACORN workers were indicted in the case.

Also in 2006, four part-time ACORN employees were indicted in Kansas City, Mo., for voter-registration fraud after being caught, fired and turned in by ACORN.

In January 2005, two Colorado ACORN workers were sentenced to community service for submitting false voter registrations.

In Ohio in 2004, four ACORN employees were indicted by a federal grand jury for submitting false voter-registration forms.

ACORN has been accused in multiple other voter fraud cases in other states. Some investigations are still pending.

ACORN strongly lobbies for gun control, leftist education policies, and the regulation of banks, targeting the lending practices of major financial institutions it sees as "predatory." It has a strong anti-capitalism agenda.

ACORN works to drive big businesses out of cities and force companies that want to move to obtain "exit visas."

ACORN protests have turned violent, at times as soon as the rallies began. Some protests disrupted Federal Reserve hearings and busted into closed city council meetings.

Stern noted that in 2003 that in Baltimore ACORN underlings piled garbage in front of City Hall to protest lack of services in poor neighborhoods, wielded huge inflated rubber sharks to disrupt a bankers' dinner, and even staged a profanity-laced protest in front of the home of the city's mayor, Martin O'Malley.

"They unloaded a busload of people shouting pretty ugly things and scared the daylights out of my wife and kids," O'Malley told the Baltimore Sun. "I thought it was a pretty cruddy thing to do."

Obama has deep ties to ACORN, including with Ayers

ACORN is very active in Obama's native Chicago, where in 1997, some 200 members attempted to storm a City Hall meeting, resulting in six members being arrested, including Madeleine Talbot, ACORN's Chicago director.

In the early 1990's during Obama's community organizing days, Kurtz notes Talbot invited Obama to help train ACORN activists, beginning what seems to be a long-term relationship between the presidential candidate and the radical group.

Obama and other Chicago attorneys won a 1995 suit on behalf of ACORN, forcing the state of Illinois to implement the federal "motor-voter" bill.

While Obama served on the board of the Woods Fund, a Chicago nonprofit, it channeled millions of dollars to ACORN and affiliated groups.

Obama was a director of the Woods Fund board from 1999 to Dec. 11, 2002, according to the Fund's website. According to tax filings, Obama received compensation of $6,000 per year for his service in 1999 and 2000.

He served on the Fund alongside William C. Ayers, an unrepentant member of the Weathermen terrorist group which sought to overthrow of the U.S. government and took responsibility for bombing the U.S. Capitol in 1971.

Obama actively sought and received the endorsement by ACORN for his local campaigns.

In the Social Policy Journal, Toni Foulkes, a Chicago ACORN leader, documents what he terms Obama's "long service" with ACORN, which he said led many of the organization's members to help in voter campaigns for Obama's early Chicago campaigns.

As a state senator, Obama touted many of ACORN's lines.

Writes Kurtz: "Sure enough, a bit of digging into Obama's years in the Illinois State Senate indicates strong concern with Acorn's signature issues, as well as meetings with Acorn and the introduction by Obama of Acorn-friendly legislation on the living wage and banking practices."

ACORN endorsed Obama's presidential campaign, an endorsement touted on Obama's official website.

"What it came down to was that Senator Obama is the candidate who best understands and can affect change on the issues ACORN cares about like stopping foreclosures, enacting fair and comprehensive immigration reform, and building stronger and safer communities across America," said ACORN's Maude Hurd of the group's Obama endorsement.

Obama met numerous times in recent months with ACORN leaders.

Sam Graham-Felson, Obama's official website blogger, noted when Obama met with ACORN leaders in November, he reminded them of his history with ACORN and his beginnings in Illinois as a Project Vote organizer, a nonprofit focused on voter rights and education. Project Vote was connected to ACORN.

"I've been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career. Even before I was an elected official, when I ran Project Vote voter registration drive in Illinois, ACORN was smack dab in the middle of it, and we appreciate your work," Obama told ACORN members in November.

WEDNESDAY, Aug. 20, 2008, 6:18 p.m. By Larry Sandler City refers 32 more to DA for voter fraud

Milwaukee's election chief turned 32 more voter registration workers in to the district attorney's office for possible prosecution today, after they tried to submit falsified registration cards.

That brings to 39 the number of registration workers under scrutiny, and the number could grow, Election Commission Executive Director Sue Edman said.

An organization warned the commission staff late this afternoon about some questionable cards in the latest batch collected by its workers, Edman said.

All of the workers targeted for investigation were paid employees of two liberal groups running voter registration drives, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now and the Community Voters Project.

...in a presidential election year, the incidents have revived partisan debate over Wisconsin's voter registration rules, and over the question of whether requiring photo identification for voters would prevent fraud or suppress turnout.

Now, we know. I don't like it.
