Tommy starts our sound funny, the candidate not the actor. Hee hee.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Rudy makes a good argument in the opening statement and Huckabee agains proves to be most loveable.

A very good answer on about the Iraq decision by Mitt out of the box.

A good reality check.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Knowing what you know now, stupid question.

If we had known that the blips on were Japanese planes would it have been a good idea to scramble fighters.

Anonymous said...

Wolf's choice about "what if" is a little sad

10 - 4 Ted

B K

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

A very solid Iraq answer by Rudy also. Emphasizing the insanity of pretending that leaving Saddam in power was an option and throwing in the Ds child like answers on the war issues juxtaposed against reality.

Anonymous said...

Brownback offers a solution and plan for Iraq. That is much more productive then focusing on the past -- we need to focus on what is happening now and what will happen in the future.

Local guy wants to look forward .. a more meaningful question for the NEXT POTUS

Three state Iraq will never work - it's a bad idea and was a bad idea six months ago when Tommy came up with it first.

There is NO way to share the oil, it's not cut into thirds. That'll cause even worse conflict.

McCain has the war answer... when will the Big I show up???

Did McCain just endorse Brownback's plan? Or at least is seriously considering it?

Oddly enough, in the Iraq has made the US less safe, I am curious as to the objective evidence of that conclusion.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Huckabee's discussion of underestimating the threat was both exactly what our public needs to hear.

And expresed in a readily understandable.

Huckabee's most presidential moment of the campaign.

Its not Reagan's bday...

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

I'd prefer to let some Boeing and GE products do the talking to Iraq than Condi Rice.

Thompson looks lucid and almost human tonight...so he's already off to a good start.

Great answer by Sen Brownback on Iran.

Agrees with Ted's idea of preparing for future economic development in Iraq, by laying the "groundwork" for the parking lots FIRST !!

Did I hear "Bunker Buster"?? I will re-consider Wolf's question selection ability !

Huckabee needs to mobilize in Iowa to capitalize on his debate performances...he can win here. He needs to write off New Hampshire and fight for Iowa and South Carolina, where he really has a great shot.

Anonymous said...

Good answer Mitt....there IS a war going on....

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Good comment by Mitt also. We do need to look at the big picture-but we also need to recognize its a war.

Immigration. Here we go.

Steve D - you TV ing and blogging too?? Liked your show today...lunch on Saturday ??

Its a real shame that Tancredo takes his crusade against immigration so far that his main money backer is huge contributor and backer of planned parenthood.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Could you give Tommy Tanc a softer pitch than "what's wrong with the immigration deal".

I'm saying Hell Yes even as Tancredo is giving this answer, until he went cannibal on me.

I have a terrible belief that we are dissolving, and we are the last best hope for mankind.

Anonymous said...

There you go McCain.....simple. Immigration = National Security issue.....

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Wolf is asking good questions in good order on immigration.

McCain is right, we cannot simply do nothing in the face of the immigration problem.

I do have a good idea-enforce all teh current laws to the max, including and perhaps especially against employers.

Nice one Mitt!!

Anonymous said...

So Romney wants a temporary work program?

Anonymous said...

Points for Romney. Let's try enforcing our current laws before we write new ones.

Anonymous said...

Romney and Ted are right on regarding the present laws being enforced.

It does appear that T Thompson fired his previous debate coach and make-up person

Both Senators understand the reality of Washington.

Sen. Brownback is going to wait and see the final version of the bill before supporting or opposing it, unlike political opportunists like Romney who opposed the bill probably before he even read it.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Clever debate strategy there by John McCain to gain extra time when they all agreed on teh official language.

Don't worry...John McCain isn't going to be president. After essentially running for the job for a decade he's just 20% in the polls opposite one guy who's for killing babies, and another guy that was until like last week. McCain is toast.

I think McCain's presidential runs are just a hobby...

Anonymous said...

Why is Rudy still a Catholic. If he doesn't want to abide by the Pope's instruction on infanticide become an Episcopalian instead.

Anonymous said...

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking....Huck....why is that even a question.......

Anonymous said...

A Huckabee question re evolution.
I appreciated Huckabee's stand-up answer.

B K

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Great response to a stupid question about evolution.

I think he is giving a pretty good answer also.

You know, it so oversimplifies the debate.

Anonymous said...

Nice job Huck.......get off it Wolf...

Anonymous said...

Maybe Wolf decended from a primate....

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Intellegent design does not exclude a divine creator setting the whole evolutionary process in action in the first place.

Here is the obligatory Mormon question.

B K

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

A good defense on his LDS beliefs by Mitt.

Anonymous said...

B K

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Right on Ron Paul. Like Mike said, he's runnng for President not school board.

Yes we do Mitt....keep it domestic, separate from global dependance.....

Profits should go towards company's R&D and maintenance...they shouldn't rely upon gov't subsidies for that.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

I would really like to hear one candidate in either party say with far more specificity how they will get us 100% independent of imported oil in 7-10 years.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Great job by Huckabee of drawing attention to the failure to ask him questions about something other than "social" issues.

Anonymous said...

Paul and Huckabee answered well regarding gays in the military.

B K

Anonymous said...

Homosexuality in the military is not about personal decision and rights.....it is pure and simple logistics. It is difficult as it is to have separate barracks/latrines to keep men/women separate.....try adding a third tier to that element....nightmare....

Anonymous said...

I think the Wolfster IS INDEED biasing his questions of Governor Huckabee

B K

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Right on Rudy of saying that now is not really the time to worry about gays in the military.

I think that we need talk about the bigger issues.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

..........good for Mitt also, what a stupid question.

Anonymous said...

Right on Ted. War on Terror, the Big "I" and energy independence are the issues in my mind.

B K

Anonymous said...

I don't believe that it is against military policy to have gay contract linguists.......

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Who cares how one would use GW Bush?

I think that the question about how you will use W if you are elected is absurd. I believe that I will make my voting decision based on THAT answer. RIGHT ???

Tancredo and Thompson, the present, seem much more with it this time.

B K

Anonymous said...

That was an intermission question....

Anonymous said...

These are horrible questions by CNN.

B K

Anonymous said...

They are bad Billy

Anonymous said...

Wow...Huckabee is allowed to talk about something other than evolution? Oh goodness, another Scooter Libby question. Who freaking cares?

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

I hope Duncan Hunter takes this time to blast the 'Rat liars like Plame and Wilson.

Disappointed for the first time, although the rest of the answer was good, if off topic.

Anonymous said...

Steve - I did not have sexual relations with that woman!! No jail time for the Slickster.

B K

Anonymous said...

Best thing I can say about this debate is it doesn't suck as much as Chris Matthews did. No one should answer this question. They should stand up and refuse the premise and point out how stupid Wolf is for even asking it.

Anonymous said...

Just say yes or no Rudy so we can move on to a new question.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Good for Rudy, defending the pure bullshit.

Too bad Wolf you don't get a yes or no.

Rudy just gained a lot of esteem in my opinion!

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Good for Mitt also. Way to man it up.

Anonymous said...

Mine too Ted

B K

Anonymous said...

Questions should get tremendously better.

Anonymous said...

Good answer by Thompson. Never a bad thing to throw Bubba under the bus.

Anonymous said...

Ted - As a debate coach I am sure you were impressed with the YES/NO question. Wolf is akin to Christy Matthews from MSNBC

B K

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Rudy was the manly man on that issue-he showed the first big pair since he slapped Ron Paul silly in the first debate.

Anonymous said...

Another good thing about this debate...Sean "groupie" Hannity doesn't have a backstage pass to "work over" the GOP candidates one by one. He'll have to get his jellybeans tonight from somewhere else, I guess.

Anonymous said...

Is it just me...or is Hillary trying to lose the election by saying stuff like "some people will need to have things taken away." That stuff never plays...that's easy to demagogue, and the Left loses almost every time they try it.

Anonymous said...

Gilmore is clearly giving the best, most detailed responses on international relations

Anonymous said...

Steve, apparently Fred Thompson will be on Hannity tonight.

Anonymous said...

OK...now for some "good" questions....

Anonymous said...

In that case, here's hoping Fred leaves a mint on Sean's pillow afterwards.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Do you think one question from the crowd will come from a REpublican?

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Could you think they could have found more of a Democrat shill than this shameless exploitation of personal tragedy.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

No...but it's a good test of how you face up to scrutiny. If you can't handle housewives in New Hampshire, you won't be able to handle Bill Clinton's wife.

Anonymous said...

Nice answer Hunter.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Good point.

Good answer of beginning to explain what victory means in Iraq.

Anonymous said...

Wow...that is a hideous tie Brownback is wearing. Lime green? Who suggested that, Lou Holtz?

Anonymous said...

This is ridiculous...the idea that you can define how to achieve the peace in Iraq in 30 seconds is asinine.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Hunter did give a good answer....glad the guy whose kid is a war hero.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Hunter did give a good answer....glad the guy whose kid is a war hero.

Anonymous said...

Brownback offers real solutions to Iraq. I hear a lot of talk from the other candidates, but no plans of any substance. If I am wrong, please correct me.

Anonymous said...

These guys don't get it. People who have to be persuaded to be free, don't deserve to be free. If the Iraqis are unwilling to help, screw them. Let them rot and move on to Iran!

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

The smart candidate will also spend a little time talking about the consequences of defeat.

McCain just did.

Anonymous said...

Unnecessary vs. pointless....tread lightly McCain......

Anonymous said...

This is the one issue that I completely agree with McCain on. If he becomes president, the new theme song of the Middle East will be, "They blew up my mosque and put up a parking lot."

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Good question.

They just shouldn't let Ron Paul talk about Iraq. He couldn't be more wrong and he's so smart on so many other issues.

Anonymous said...

Brownback's plan is eventually what will happen...and the Bush administration will start pushing it later in the year.

Anonymous said...

Mccain has always done a pretty good job about the consequences of defeat in Iraq.

B K

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Bomb Teheran, bomb Teheran.

A plane load of bombs from a B-52 would turn that city into Hamburg circa 1945 and we'd let the monsters understand what it means to really, really anger Americans.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

The words for which I search are "smoldering ruin"

Anonymous said...

Well, Paul is right about one thing. You can't impose freedom on people. We're trying to give self-governance to a group of people whose worldview doesn't accept the concept of free will. Good luck with that.

However, Rudy is right. Now we have a responsibility to finish what we started. And McCain is right, if we pull out, there will be a genocide there of mass proportion and it will become a proxy for terrorists.

Anonymous said...

John Petain talks a good game but he is willing to give amnesty to jihadis and co-authored the Al Qaeda Bill of Rights.

He will NOT win the war.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Has anyone noticed that not one Democrat discussed the consequences of defeat in Iraq beyond the troops coming home.

Anonymous said...

The Brownback solution that he stole from Tommy is WRONG. Talk about instability - you think they will allow the oil to be divided by a third for each state? GIVE ME A BREAK! Mass chaos.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

A smart explanation of conservatism's easy marriage to conservationism if we just would push the issue.

WE can capture a lot ground on the Ds if we just don't run from the issue.

Anonymous said...

I don't believe any of the top three can beat Hillary, because they don't have the consistent record of conservativism that can cast Hillary as the Leftist she really is. That's why the GOP needs Thompson (a stealth candidate with a flimsy record so he's tough to attack) or to seriously look at someone in the second tier: Huckabee, Brownback, or Tancredo.

Anonymous said...

I meant Fred Thompson.

Anonymous said...

Darn this thing is half over... Sorry I'm late.

Rudy is right on about health insurance, people need to cover themselves, so that when they change jobs, move or whatever, it goes with them.

Great Answer Rudy

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Here's a good tax break. Credits for personal windmills, solar roofs and corn or other bio-home furnaces.

We Republican capitalists would make a killing.

Anonymous said...

what are you smoking deace? This country would never elect Tancredo

Anonymous said...

Steve - Can a sitting senator or congressman win it??

B K

Anonymous said...

Is it just me or does Hunter seem warmer in this format than he does from a podium?

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

You know, the dissing of Huckabee cannot be mere inadvertance.

It is so obvious.

Anonymous said...

If Tancredo runs as an independent on the immigration compromise, if they pass it (which I think they will), he could win electoral votes in places like Texas and Arizona. He couldn't win the presidency, but he do to the GOP what George Wallace did the Democrats on segregation.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

I agree deacer. this is his best showing.

BK, Can a mayor win it?

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

At last, the Real Tommy Thompson. He just needed to talk about health care.

Anonymous said...

A congressman perhaps, because the GOP Congress didn't totally put their nuts in a jar when they had power. The senate is so out of touch with red state America, no matter who is in power, that I would say no. Plus, sitting senators don't typically win the presidency.

Anonymous said...

Where does the right to health care fall under the Constitution?

Romney should have an interesting answer. He socialized the Massachussetts healh system.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

right on pd!!!

The REal Sporer is going to push that hard.

The market is magical in its transformative powers.

Anonymous said...

Iowa caucus goers need to have the nuts to support a tancredo or huckabee, to show the rest of the nation that yes, a true conservative can win.

Anonymous said...

APB on Huckabee...or are we waiting for the one Jehovah's Witness in the audience to get his shot at pigeon-holing him?

Anonymous said...

The problem with Huckabee is that he isn't trustworthy on fiscal issues. The problem with Tancredo is he is on a single-issue crusade. Brownback has a consistent conservative record on both social and fiscal issues, and isn't as tied to the war as the top three are (which is good for the general).

Additionally, Brownback would rally social conservatives, and fiscal conservatives, once examining his record (see Club for Growth report), and his endorsement of the optional flat tax and private social security accounts, would rally behind him as well.

I don't think Tancredo or Huckabee can do that.

With regards to Fred Thompson, there is no singular issue he is strong on, which worries me in terms of the party being able to rally behind him.

Anonymous said...

Not sure Anon 7:30

But as the D's are trying a "Rock Star" mayor might??

B K

Anonymous said...

I fear that Iowa conservatives/orthodox Christians are so sold out to the political process that they don't have the cojones to do what you're calling for. It's probably going to take a total defeat, and the desperation that would create, to get them there.

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

Good question from the philosphy prof.

Huckabee is pissed and deservedly so. He isn't running for Bishop or Sainthood.

But he is giving a brilliant answer. He is also able to work in a foreign policy answer. Good job.

It also shows the difference between us and the evil of jihadism.

Anonymous said...

Several months ago I heard a pretty good rebuttal to Huckabee's fiscal/tax issues. Sounded to me that someone from Club For Growth perhaps had an issue with Huckabee.

B K

Anonymous said...

I disagree on your characterization on Huckabee. When the Club for Growth came out with its report on him, I had him on the show and refuting every one of their claims one-by-one.

I like Sam, too, but he also has a credibility question on immigration with conservatives.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

One difference between Huckabee and the Club for Growth...unlike its founder, Grover Norquist, he's not soft on Islam.

Mamma-I'm sorry for swearing. I will say "P-Od" in the future.

Anonymous said...

Deace,

I don't think all the Christian Conservatives have sold out, however, I think some of the people they have supported, and some of their leaders have sold them down the river. What we need more than anything is new leadership of the social conservatives.

It could be you, but you seem happy to bitch about a few, not lead...

B K

The Deplorable Old Bulldog said...

I am going to track Mark Lucas' story about Huckabee and the Fair Tax and cite that later tonight.

Anonymous said...

See...Brownback just made a mistake there, in my opinion. If the life issue is so important, why would you support someone who in the past has advocated public funding of abortion and was for partial birth infanticide? That was a chance for Sam to hit one out of the part, and club Rudy like a baby seal, and he punted.

First rule of politics, don't hit what you won't kill. Second rule, when you attack don't pull up because you'll get no credit for showing restraint.
